Sooloos is obsolete so you could could argue Meridian is dependant going forward on Roon supporting the Sooloos protocol, doubt that has anything to do with the 210 launch delay, more likely issues between Apple and Meridian?
To my mind they’ve stupidly painted themselves into a corner, you can’t announce to a loyal set of customers that you’re not supporting a technology they’ve invested a shed load of cash in and then introduce new kit that needs that technology to support it in many of your loyal customers systems. Hate to be grumpy but after years of setting up and supporting Sooloos in my house there’s no point in a 210 that I can see.
Good job really as the chances of me being able to buy one, ever(?), seems pretty slim.
Having also previously invested in Sooloos, MD600, TwinStore, C10, MC200 etc I share your feelings. Life on the Roon side is less investment and pretty good, my Meridian equipment list has diminshed to a pair of unused M100’s, however I wish I could shove Mr Buchanan’s “exciting times ahead” speech where I think it belongs. ymmv.
Yes indeed, I think the item of clothing required is called a gauntlet in veterinary terms. I’ll let you make your own decision about how much lubrication was used.
The only Sooloos equipment which is really obsolete are the stores and control, though, right? The endpoints still work and the MC-series still work as endpoints just not stores under Roon.
At the end of the day, with the stores and control screens, we’re talking about glorified computer equipment - we all know how quickly that dates and the kinds of financial hit we all take all the time with the pace of computer and network development. Honestly, I’m surprised the lifetime of that gear was as long as it was.
Makes sense going forward for Meridian to move over to RAAT for new endpoints, while Roon continue to support old Sooloos protocol for existing gear.
The part which is risky is if Roon ever go under, then very expensive network gear like ID40/41 is no longer supported by the manufacturer...
Or if Roon decides Sooloos support isn’t worth the effort.
I always saw Roon as the deluxe Sooloos but thought Meridian should have carried on with Sooloos as the supported all be it basic streaming solution that ‘comes bundled free’ but I don’t believe that or us on HH are Meridians future.

Meridian appear to have very limited resources in this space and much more important priorities as a business. I very much doubt that they can offer anything with a sufficiently interesting unique selling point to produce anything more than an expensive Nucleus with a Meridian badge on it. Even if they could I doubt that they have the ability to maintain such a product and would hate to see it wither away in the same way that Sooloos did and taking with it whatever Roon USP they might of been able to come up with.
I would much rather they focused what limited resources they have on endpoints. Such as RAAT support, MQA first unfold in Roon and final rendering in DSP speakers, 2 channel MRC (Would this even be necessary with Roon DSP?), maybe even Trifield and multi-channel support and a mid-range endpoint between the 21x series and the ID4x. Sadly it doesn't appear that they have the inclination to even do this let alone produce a Meridian Roon core type offering.
