In fact, I've just dug out an old copy of Home Cinema Choice (Sept 2017) where they test 4 premium sets; 3 OLEDs (LG 65" W7, £8,000 / Loewe Bild 7.65, £6,500 / Panasonic TX-65EZ1002, £6,000) against Sony's larger LCD (75" XE9405, £4,900) & they found the Sony to be winner. I will try and look for that review. I calibrated a friends 75 XE9405 for him, and on bright scenes it is stunning, but no matter how much you try and get the blacks right they never are. He came from an early LG OLED and was a bit disappointed. However, he stuck with it as he was wanting to get rid of his JVC projector. It is a good set with reference stuff, but with TV it always looks a bit washed out, especially when you have a scene with dark and light at the same time. Viewing angles are pants too, something I tried to explain to him before buying it, but after years of plasmas and projectors I don't think he realised how bad. His sofas are laid out with one either side of the room and an armchair in front, he had to move it all around as even laying back on one of the side sofas so you are only slightly off centre would make the blacks look a washed out blue. He paid just under £3k for it, he said if it had been more he would have returned it, but was never going to pay for a 75" OLED.

Hmm. Any thoughts on the Samsung QE75Q7F (as the price of this is now sub £4k)? If you can wait until the current price subsides I would buy the 75Q9FN. I saw one last week. The picture is the most ‘OLED’ like you’ll ever find. The 2018 QLED’s have a fantastic picture but I’m not convinced they don’t have an issue with their one connect box.

Yeah, I saw one on Friday at the local Samsung shop and it looked amazing. Unfortunately, my realization that viewing angle is a major factor would appear to rule out anything but OLED. And the best retail prices are still way too expensive for my liking. I need to measure, but pretty sure that the non-centre seats in my basement will be viewing parts of the screen at >45º.

Samsung TVs always look good in shops because of the brightness control. for real world tv watching however i have found them too biright, over saturated colours , poor black levels and poor motion control (footballs appearing as comets flying across the pitch). You cant go wrong with a decent plasma or OLED. I have the Panasonic EZ1000 65 inch OLED and its excellent

The 2018 Samsung viewing angles are better, up to 40 degrees off-centre - especially on the Q9FN.

Very happy with OLED here. To my mind, Panasonic and Sony look amazing. We went with the former.
I’ve also found Samsung TV’s overly saturated, although I believe their high end screens can be calibrated, but then you’re looking at OLED pricing for something to my mind isn’t as good (yet, still impressive).

Despite my belief that once my Panasonic Plasma had died that I was going to buy QLED, I didn’t.
I had laboriously viewed all the usual OLED models in stores but wasn’t sufficiently impressed (for one reason or another).
Then, we viewed the Loewe OLED at a local Meridian PP. No contest. It’s now sitting in my lounge.
