Because your 808v6 is doing the hardware decode and render, the original file from Tidal will still be as Joel said

I finally have some time this weekend to test this out before ordering my NUC.

I was wondering if anyone could offer any advice on these two, basic, I think, questions?

1. Once I have plugged the ID41 in to the network is there any config that I need to do on the 861?

2. From reading about Roon I understand that it knows how to stream music to the ID41. If I want to similarly send music from Spotify, I'll be running from my laptop using Windows 10 in the first instance, how do I route the music to the ID41?

Thank you.

You can't to the ID41 but can to the USB input. The ID41 only 'talks' Sooloos, so only systems that also 'talk' Sooloos can play to it - ie Sooloos and Roon.

Thank you Ian. I hadn't understood that. Roon becomes more appealing every day!

Roon supports Tidal and Qobuz, not Spotify.

So, installed Roon on my laptop. Found a WAV file. Plugged a cable in to the ID41. Went in to Roon settings to add the ID41 as an audio source. It found it immediately and I played the WAV. So signed up to Tidal. And connected that to Roon. Now playing my first album.

Everything just worked perfectly first time. Took about 10 minutes. And it sounds great. I'm extremely impressed.

The combination of Roon/ID40/41 is really hard to beat once you’re used to it - superb sound and very easy to set up and use.

Enjoy!
