That would make sound business sense, I just think it sounds like a short term plan sorta watering down their brand. I just hope this can enable them to keep high end audio afloat which we have enjoyed for so many years, and doesnt turn them into a company developing boring lifestyle systems that are just there to check off boxes and do little more.

More so than what this means for Meridian, the high fidelity home audio / home cinema market worries me as an audiophile a great deal as we see here high-end manufacturers turn to installer products and lifestyle products becoming more and more commonly accepted. For many people a small active speaker radio is their only reference of high fidelity audio, which is just such a shame. That should be apparent to anyone who have heard a high fidelity stereo system.

But like you said, you have to be where the money is at to survive as a business.

Unfortunately, I agree. This might work in the short-term, but it's not going to retain their position as leaders in the audiophile space.

If they ultimately disappear, I'll be very sad. I've been ecstatic with their products for over 20 years now, but I have a concern that the inward investment a few years ago might turn out to have been a pact with the devil.

A “265” (G65 in a 2U, 271-like box) might be a logical fit into the rackmount range?

priorities: stereo music (primarily 'classical' / choral / opera)
boxes: various 500-series, DACs, G91 (+ non-M e.g. ELS-63)

These types of posts come and go on a regular basis. As mentioned elsewhere, like it or not, Meridian probably needed to diversify to survive. And if that means concentrating on other markets, then that's life.

Now I'm not a fan of marketing, imho it's the root of many evils and often undertaken by people totally clueless of the product. They may well know the market, or think they do, but once marketing has facilitated exposure a good product should sell itself and not need gimmicky tricks to fool the market - lots of examples where good products lost out to inferior ones with a bigger marketing budget/better marketing team.

Unfortunately, Meridian's portfolio of products that can sell themselves on merit, with the right exposure, is forever shrinking. So it pains me to see Meridian rely more and more on tacky marketing to promote inferior products.

The above sums things up I think. Such a true but saddening observation. I really hope it is not the mind set that now flows through the core of Meridian. There is one thing helping design a second tier product, but thinking of them as first rate (as the marketing comes across) does a disservice to the truly first rate products of Meridian of old. Too much effort goes into trying to polish tiger turds to notice the awful smell that others get a whiff of.

imho.

That is, from my perspective, there is zero identification and satisfaction of (our) customer requirements. If they actually did so there wouldn’t be any debate on whether or not they were a profitable company.

I am keeping telling myself it is a soundbar, meanwhile waiting to be surprised.
