It's a digital only Trinnov Altitude 32 in a Meridian box with Speakerlink outputs, Meridian Comms, MQA and a few Meridian proprietary surround preset tweaks.

I must dash now for my bacon sandwich appears to have taken flight......

I think that's a good guess. Teaser campaigns are not for us, but to create a media story. It really doesn't matter that fringe sleuths have figured out what it might be.

A bit of LG Technology coming the other way might be a nice surprise.

If LG can fit the Atmos processing into something like a sound bar, it's not too unreasonable to suppose that they could feed the height channels from the soundbar and have some sort of Meridian 'output' that could send 5.1 to the Meridian processor.

I guess I am not the only one who is disappointed watching a company like Meridian have any association with smartphones and lifestyle sound products and their media department making it out to be a big deal.

A stark contrast to their high end products like they can't really make up their minds if they want to be a high fidelity audio company or do lifestyle products which are essentially without any hi-fi considerations.

Here's to them finding their footing and continue doing what they do best: high end audio.

P.S a 861v10 annoncement would be sick smile

The thing is, if you are out of business, you can’t do anything. So if an association with LG gives Meridian an income and supplies great products to the masses which raises the bar for all, then so be it.

You have to survive...

No 18 in the Hall of fame smile I have simple tastes; I am content to settle for the best:
GIK monster bass panels, rear wall. QNAP TVS 471i3. Roon into DSP5200SE via 210/ 218 zone... Explorer 2. Bluesound Pulse 2, Mini & Flex. 596v1, 518, Foxsat HD, Sony BDP, Pioneer 5090, 2 Chromecast's for LRB videos. MS200 to F80 for a Roon zone

At best it is another collaboration product.

The prospect of a 861v10 with 3D codecs is also not likely. Trinnov won't sell the 3D codec option unless the unit is capable of processing at least 16 channels. The current 64 channel backplane is essentially maxed out as it sits.

Theta Digital will not do 3D codecs unless you have at least 12 channels.

I would bet good money that the real reason that Meridian has not made a codec decode change in 20 years comes down to license fees. Making the HD621 and UHD722 allowed them to stay relevant and skip the license fees.

Just my opinion.

861v10? Did I miss something? How about a v9?

Honestly, I don’t think Meridian will go down the Atmos route and I’m not sure they should. I think the products to allow DSPs to be controlled by 3rd party Atmos decoders is a clear sign they won’t. Many people don’t want or need more than 5.1 channels let alone 7.1 or Atmos.

What they do best is their own proprietary code for multichannel movies AND music. Their selling point used to be more on the multichannel MUSIC side with code such as Trifield, etc., which can be spectacular.

I believe they should exploit that USP by updating to v9 simply with the low-jitter architecture of the 818v3/808.6 and MQA decoding. That would be a big step up and at least bring the 861 series in line with the rest of the range. I’d buy one.
