A friend will make me custom M and S leads, and to get the length of the different cables right I thought I'd better make sure here first...

Looking in the manual it seems like Meridian says we should use 511 patch boxes and/or have a finishing Slave lead go back from the last speaker to the processor, but it also shows one configuration with the spekers just daisy-chained from one to the next. I think some have written that daisy-chaining worked better for them than the more thorough methods.

I have a G68, a 5000C, a D1500 and two DSP33 - and it would be absolutely best for me if I could daisy-chain the speakers in that order: a Master to the centre speaker, then a slave to the sub, then on to the first and then the second surround speaker.

This would give me the shortest cables, but will it work alright? When I think about it now it doesn't seem so, I can't get both the centre/sub and the rear digital output into the same chain, can I?

thanks for any help,
Tommy Petersson

Tommy

I have an 861 rather than a G68, but I suspect the answer is the same, which is that the RL/RR and C/S channels are carried on two different outputs, so you cannot daisy-chain the signal out to the surrounds from the sub as there will be no surround signal on that channel. You will have to run a signal line back to the processor from the surrounds.

However you should be able to daisy chain the comms lines in the way you describe.

Well, it kind of dawned on me while writing the question... [Linked Image from softronix.com]

Thanks for your answer, then I think it's probably best not to put the signal and the comms cable together as Meridian does, but rather have them separate. Or?
