What's with that *old* mini-USB connection for maintenance? I haven't had a device that used one of those since forever

Last week JimK and I did some comparative tests with the 218, Schiit Modi (their cheapest DAC), Audio Alchemy and Berkeley Alpha DAC 2. We tested the 218 as just a DAC, as a streamer and as a DAC/Streamer.
As a streamer the Audio Alchemy, which uses a Raspberry Pi board, absolutely thumped the 218 -- it wasn't even close.
If you're thinking of a buying a 210 I'd do a comparison first with your Raspberry Pi.

I found this today Meridian 210 Launch
No 18 in the Hall of fame I have simple tastes; I am content to settle for the best: GIK monster bass panels, rear wall. QNAP TVS 471i3. Roon into DSP5200SE via 210/ 218 zone... Explorer 2. Bluesound Pulse 2, Mini & Flex. 596v1, 518, Foxsat HD, Sony BDP, Pioneer 5090, 2 Chromecast's for LRB videos. MS200 to F80 for a Roon zone

I presume the USB is asynchronous?
And that Roon ready means RAAT and not Sooloos.
Last edited by dpstjp; 2019-01-02 15:21. Reason: RAAT
Sooloos, Roon, G series (with LPS upgrade), 800 series (with LPS upgrade), HD621, AC200, Prime and PS, DSPs old and new.
Purdeys, Moke, Leica, 'Blad. Only the best.

Looking at that USB connection, that's an output or for connecting to an external drive.

spinaltap mentioned USB In on 20th December, VK.
Pity if it's only for a hard drive. How do you select tracks for that I wonder?
Mind you, it wouldn't be the first time M had mislabeled a connection...

There doesn’t seem to be any indication on the front panel that a USB input has been selected.

I wonder if the delayed launch has been about synching with the launch of MQA on TIDAL via Android devices? Can MQA survive the Bluetooth pathway?

So many horses in this race and so many fences to jump, confirmation that Sooloos is a non starter is much appreciated.
Huntingdon on Boxing Day was always a good meeting. Place your bets please, Hector

When my 210 arrives, I had planned to connect it directly to my 218 - and stream to the 210 from my remotely located Mac Mini Server via the home network.
Speculation; it might appear obvious to some here. Possibly, like a remotely connected MC200, is it likely that I could directly connect my 210 to my Mac Mini Server (USB) for streaming to my remotely located 218 via the home network?
