I believe that multichannel 96K and above will be down-mixed to 48K similar to an Oppo without a vanity board. I hope to be wrong here and if so I need 2🤞

HDMI to single SPDIF will not do Hi-Res audio multichannel :)(meaning uncompressed)

I’ve edited my post to say “hi-res stereo” for SACDs from my Oppo via HDMI-extracted SPDIF. This way, I do get 88.2 or 96kHz output, which would otherwise be blocked for copy protection reasons.
You are correct that it will not give me >48 kHz when playing multichannel.
