I just extracted the system from the dusty boxes and I am rediscovering my Meridian System since I almost forgot everything in all these years.
Except a G91A with a NO DISC Failure all the rest looks working fine, including my incredible 207 Pro that after 30 years is still playing (for now) discs like the first day.
Had a first 'fight' with the first set of DSP5000 - Second still in boxes - where it looks I entered TEST mode for mistake but I was not able to exit if not with George suggesting me to erase the system to Type 1 and restart. Perfect!
Well.. not exactly... The impossibility to exit test mode using 'clear' looks much more diffuse that expected. Access to controls to the DSP5000 are not working, including the complete Menu system. Firmware is 5040.
What is wrong?
The system sounds great... but no access to DSP5000 menus To reduce variables I eliminated from the system all not needed electronics, just connecting directly the digital output of the 207 pro to DSP5000 and using now Type 5.
Thanks Mauro

Hi again Mauro
Can you tell us what menu items you want to access, and describe exactly how you have tried to achieve that thus far?
If you haven't already done so, download the original DSP5000 user guide (the oldest one) from Duncan's Meridian Info (link at the top of this page)
Cheers
George

Hi George! I looks one of these days I have to send you at least a home made cake from Italy! In the meantime if you re thinking to travel in my area 'Ravenna' please stop and accept my invitation for dinner! It looks almost all the menus does not respond as expected. Let's start with a simple one like DISPLAY I have manual version 4 released by J R Stuart Theatre: July 1994 On page 16 it looks the system, if interrogated during Standby, has to display 4 data Example is: 2.2 P1.81 d1.2 441b All I have is 5.040. Arrow keys are making no effects. The bigger issue is I am not able to access to menu system as indicated in page 18 where using the W and E arrows the following menus must be available. Tilt Bass Phase Balance Axis W and E arrows makes no effect at all. Mauro

Hi Mauro That's a kind offer, you're a Gentleman! Do you have the 5000s connected to your G68 or G91 at present? If so, you need to press Fn + < or > to accesss the menu items you want. The G68 and G91 will most likely be set as the system Controller from when you last used them, as that's standard practice. It's a long time since I ran a pair of DSPs without a controller so I can't remember what they display as you scroll through in Standby, but I'll check with my 5000s later. In the meantime it's worth checking the comms status of everything connected by doing the following, assuming you have DSPs and processor wired up with standard Meridian Master and Slave digital/comms cables: Put the whole system in Standby. Point MSR(+) at the processor, and press Clear. - The processor display should read "Controller" and your Master DSP "N.Con" (mine is a dot matrix version, the older 7 segment LED display version may read slightly differently) Now select a source to bring system out of Standby. Point MSR(+) at the processor and use Fn < > to access the menu. These choices are made on the processor, not the DSP. I should also say that when the DSPs are initially set up by pointing the remote at the display in Standby (and have them disconnected from the G68/G91 to do this) you can select a Controller Status of Yes, No or Auto. For the above steps to work, you need to have selected Auto. If you do otherwise, you are instructing the DSP to either be it's own Controller (or Not) and it will ignore comms signals from the processor. Cheers George

WOW George, that's an answer... I'll need more time to digest it than you eating my Homemade pie! I am taking things out of the boxes one by one. Now I am 'resurrecting' a DSP5000C and a 568.2. where I found a sloppy disk! A floppy! where I can find a floppy disc equipped PC today? I am lucky it's a 3 inches and not a 5 1/4! G91 probably was connected as player only to the G68. Yes, probably the G68J is the good one but at this point do I have to change type for DSP5K from 5 as it is now to 1 suppose. Now I am opening the system slowly, selecting only few parts. I’m probably going to connect the G68 and after this I let you know what happened. THANKS! M PS Is what you are saying that speaker menu are available not only directly but also using a processor? Maybe I have a firmware version that locks the menu system directly from the speakers... it's 5.040 and I remember this version is related to 24/96 version of DSP5K.
