Despite having up to date firmware in all devices I still have the odd glitch.
I follow a sequence when bringing devices out of standby which seems to work 99% of the time.
1. Bring Sony TV out of standby 2. Bring Sky Q out of standby 3. Select Sat on 861 and off we go. It takes 2-5 seconds for everything to exchange protocols.
Sometimes if I don't follow this sequence I get a whitish screen and then I switch my Oppo 203 on and switch to that input via the 861 and the system recovers.
I think the weak link is the Sony 8509 (late 2015 model) as its firmware has always been a bit flaky.
I decided to take a look at the broader market when thinking about going 4K from my HD621. I have now installed and am very happy with a Blustream CMX42AB.
The obvious caveat here is no M comms, but it handles all the 4K switching perfectly with IR control, and breaks out the audio from the HDMI stream to send into my M environment. Sources are Freeview HD, Chromecast 4K, Dune 4K, Xbox 4K. I think they do an 8x2 unit also.
Obviously very specific to my setup, but worth mentioning that other perfectly good 4K-audio-breakout options are available. Cost was under GBP 400.
What a poor piece of expensive hardware. Can’t believe the problems haven’t been resolved after a year...
I feel like a complete idiot for buying an HDMI switch for so much money that doesn’t even work properly. I don’t even dare letting my 8 year old turn on the Apple TV for fear that the continuous locking of the 861 caused by the UHD722 attempting to get a signal would break one or both devices.
Sometime a reboot of the Apple TV works, sometimes switching on the TV works, sometimes having the CEC start things up works, but nothing works consistently.
i agree about the unreliability of this device. I also should never have bought one (in fact I bought two). My sub $2K USD Marantz processor passes HDMI 4K/1080p better. I am keeping my 861v8 in the hope that Meridian offers Dolby Atmos upgrade someday.
I don't have a UHD722, but I have a similar problem: getting 18Gb 4k to my TV, while getting audio somewhere else. I purchased an HDMI 2.0 18Gb EDID audio splitter box. 4k goes to TV, audio goes to Oppo203 HDMI In.
Box reports 7.1 LPCM to connected devices, via an HDMI2.0 switch before the audio splitter, and that selects between PS4 Pro, Roku and Mac.
Input selection handled by Harmony remote. The audio out could just as easily go to a HD621 for a 562 or 861.

... And of course right after I get my hopes up, I find that the update is not available on M's firmware page listings despite HD621 still being on there !!!!!
This friendly dealer has not been made aware of any new firmware for the UHD722 nor is there any listed on the dealer section of Meridian's website. I will inquire further to validate.
