Tarik/Andrew/All,

I'm back to square one again, the 568 is now frozen, none of the front panel buttons operate and no matter what I try I cannot connect! Is the 568 usually this temperamental or could it be faulty? I have had half an hour of Trifield working but since trying to change my DSP5000C from Large to Small nothing is working again!

Any help would be very much appreciated!

KR

Neil

... additionally, a 'Manual' Store starts to process but fails at 50% every time.

I think it’s time to contact the seller.

If they won’t refund you, I’d suggest opening it up and resetting all the ICs and cables; this worked on a temperamental 568 I had.

Won't be the first time that a unit has left a seller in 100% working condition but been issues upon receipt and won't be the last.

Even in factory boxes, it can be a rough ride through the hands of some courier companies, even the big ones when parcels are handled by third parties - I wish that I had kept piccies of a 201 after it arrived having got lost on a grand tour of Europe.

If you can, try the obvious connectors for seating. Sounds like something intermittent to me so something could have been dislodged in transit.

Before returning equipment etc.

Disconnect everything external to the 568.

Will it do a manual store? Can you now connect and store via RS232?

If no, 568 problem. If yes you most likely have a ground problem in the mains wiring, either noisy or a ground potential difference.

A huge 'Thank You' to ChrisLayerUK for visiting with his trusty laptop and successfully programming my 596!

Problem solved and now for some rears and a sub!

Thanks again for all the advice.

I took my OLD Windows 98 Panasonic Toughbook round and just loaded a new config in the 568. It loaded first time.

We carefully wired it all up and, low and behold, Music...

No 18 in the Hall of fame smile I have simple tastes; I am content to settle for the best:
GIK monster bass panels, rear wall. QNAP TVS 471i3. Roon into DSP5200SE via 210/ 218 zone... Explorer 2. Bluesound Pulse 2, Mini & Flex. 596v1, 518, Foxsat HD, Sony BDP, Pioneer 5090, 2 Chromecast's for LRB videos. MS200 to F80 for a Roon zone

Sadly, and despite the valiant efforts of Chris and his trusty laptop, it seems the 568 is rather sickly.

After a couple of days rest the 568 is back to it's temperamental best, it flashes Meridian 568 for a while then goes into standby, noticeable click through the speakers when selecting a source from that point, goes back into standby and none of the buttons, front panel or MSR, elicit any response.

It sprung into life once, 20 seconds of sound and then went back into standby!

Time for a replacement possibly!

I think you have gone above and beyond with respect to proving that the 568 is not what was advertised. Hope the seller will refund you.

If you can and are prepared to open it up, just give any connectors a push home. It's clearly not totally failed as you have had it working for periods of time. So something intermittent, like connectors or heat affected components. If its the connectors, its possible transport had an affect so would be fixed with the above.
