I’m in the market for a shiny new UHD TV and I’m undecided what flavour to go for.
Anyone care to offer some advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hard to better LG's OLEDs and the early ones WEBos and 3D implementations are so far ahead of anyone else's it's scary! Things to look for in a new TV include HLG (for broadcast 4K), HDR10 and Dolby Vision (UHD discs and streaming Netflix and Amazon) and HDMI-CEC if you're looking for Atmos sound and, usually, Optical Out if you're not.

Vincent Teoh works for www.hdtvtest.co.uk and regularly adds comparative Youtube videos about new TVs and is worth checking out.

I have a 65 inch LG OLED and am very satisfied with it, picture quality is excellent especially 4k via Oppo 203.

Now that prices are coming down to an acceptable level, my next one will be an OLED - probably LG.

I've had a few Samsungs now and whilst they have a superficially good picture their processing keeps tripping up (esp horizontal and vertical scrolling). Also, they have an irritating habit of not providing updates to recent products (my less than 2 year old top of the range will not get HLG even as it gets HDR10). The only upside at the moment is their separate Connect box - which allows you to hide all the wiring gubbins (except, strangely, ethernet) behind the cupboard, with a single cable routed through the wall to the display. If LG, or anyone else, did that I would probably rip it off the wall now!

Don't worry about screen burn, or the notional lack of light intesity; they aren't a factor IRL.

A few months ago I was strongly minded to buy OLED, but widespread reports of image retention, banding, and burn-in caused me to review my decision.

Today, if my Plasma died, I would have no hesitation in buying the all-new Samsung Q9FN (2018). I've seen this FALD (full array local dimming) product in John Lewis. It is the most 'OLED like' panel that I've seen. The viewing angles are good too.

In its review of the Samsung Q9FN, AVForums has awarded it ‘Reference Status’ with a perfect score of 10.

I finally went for the 2018 “7” series QLED.

If you don't mind me asking, was that after a side-by-side comparison or based on online reviews? If it was side-by-side, what swung it for you?

We'll be looking to buy a new TV later in the year so I'm interested in this topic. As a general rule of thumb, do OLED TVs have enough punch to work well with ambient light or are they better used in light-controlled conditions?

Well it came down to a few things really, I have for sometime been reviewing several brands some within budget some not, the ones which where in budget could have been 2017 models but the new Samsung had a few new features over the old model and was in budget.

I did the obligatory visit to Curry’s/John Lewis to view in person and I did prefer the Samsung over the Older “B7” so my choice was made.

Now whilst set up is a doddle and the picture glorious and no doubt I shall get it calibrated it has had its teething problems:

- Firstly after initial setup it failed to recognise Sky as a source input, and resulted in a 28 minute call to support where they remote accessed it and worked some magic.

- Then later the same afternoon Sky lost its sound thus also resulting in a call to technical.

So I’ve lived with the new TV for several days now and I’m really happy with my purchase however I’ve now encountered a new issue, now some of it could possibly be operator error let’s hope so. Previously I would run all of my sources through my DVDO Edge then along to my old 1080P Samsung ... all sources in HD and all was fine until I connected existing HDMI cable into the new TV and now all sources are in SD is it the TV the Edge or the cable at fault here?

So after several weeks of ownership I’ve had to return two Q7’s and Sky has also upgraded my box to the latest model and I’ve come to the conclusion Sky Q and my QLED don’t play nice together.

So I’m now a proud owner of the 2018 LG C8 OLED.

I have an LG Oled and SkyQ and they work together perfectly for me.

It’s was the QLED that didn’t play nice,the new OLED works just as it should with skyq.
One thing I will say the OLED picture hasn’t blown me away as yet.
