At least on the 861... any news on if this is also the case for G68?
From the 861 firmware thread:
"Lipsync. The range of adjustment for Lipsync has been increased from 30ms to 85ms. This gives users more flexibility when trying to time align sound and video. The setting is also now adjustable per source, rather than per preset - this is to reflect the shift of video processing from the display device to the source device. When the user changes the Lipsync value it is immediately stored for that source, there is no need to use the 'store' keys."

Meridian G68 Product Firmware Beta Release 1.27b (2005-01-31)
New Features
This version of software supports the AAC DSP processing available on newer versions of the G68, along with the alternative of decoding to zone2/copy - earlier software versions willnotfunction with the AAC decoder fitted. To determine if a product has an AAC decoder press the display key in standby to view the software version numbers. An additional display will appear between the "Micro" screen and the "DSP" screen - "+ AAC/Zone2 decoder" - if the hardware is present.
Support for G68J - this version of software automatically re-routes sources assigned to O1, O2 & the internal tuner when the inputs are not present. The G68J will select O3, O4 and A1 respectively.
Lipsync. The range of adjustment for Lipsync has been increased from 30ms to 85ms. This gives users more flexibility when trying to time align sound and video. The setting is also now adjustable per source, rather than per preset - this is to reflect the shift of video processing from the display device to the source device. When the user changes the Lipsync value it is immediately stored for that source, there is no need to use the 'store' keys.
Gain adjustment for internal tuner. Each preset radio station can now be assigned an audio level gain value. This is to give the same perceived loudness for each station. The setting can be changed before or after a 'store' sequence: it is automatically stored for the current station. Note that this occurs in the digital domain and clippingispossible if the user applies positive gain to a loud station.
RS232 commands. "ON" is a new command that emulates the front panel 'on' button. The product will leave standby and select the previously selected source.
Software Fixes - Critical - Software must be updated None
Software Fixes - Useful - May be useful to upgrade but not essential
Zone outputs. Zone3 variable volume is initialised to volume 65, rather than zero. The zone2/copy and zone3 diagnostic displays are now available via the serial interface; use "CS71" and "CS72" for zones 2 and 3 respectively. Optical inputs O1, O2 & O5 are now available on the zone2/copy and zone3 outputs. S-video to composite mixdown and diagnostic fixed.
Surround subs. The surround sub is now present in the calibrate procedure and the analogue output level has been corrected. PC Control. The G68 now correctly outputs the volume number in the "!V65" format when requested.
Software Fixes - Minor - Update probably not necessary

Thanks,
AAC decoder ... what is this for, and why is it not in all G68?
AAC is a encoding standard if I remember correctly?

AAC is what the Japanese use. It was originally one of the new things put in for the G68J. No prizes for guessing what the J in G68J stands for.

AAC = Advanced Audio Coding
Thought as a successor to MP3, AAC is part of the MPEG-4 standard and can encode multichannel streams.
Used in iTunes.
HD621, G98DH, G68ADV, Bc Acoustiqe ACT A3, 5200C DSP33, NuForce Reference 9 monoblocks, 2x SB3's, Velodyne DD-15 & DD-12 Subwoofers and a Meridian sub.

Well, I guess they have that firmware out already. Because my 1 month old G68J, has this option. I accidentally found out about it, because it is only selectable by remote/on the unit itself. And not by software, there it still is by preset and max. 30ms.

It would be great if they would increase the delay option on the 568.2 as well...32ms is only one frame and that isn't quite enough is some cases.
HT: 568.2mm (Revelation One filter), 518x2, SB3, Bryston 7BSTx3, 8BST, Aerial 10T, CC3, SW12(Qty2) w/SVS AS-EQ1, MK Tripole x4. JVC RS1u, DVDO Duo, Oppo 103 w/Vanity103HD, Sony PS3, VIP 3D Theatre, Acer H5360. Logitech Ultimate Remote and Hub.

Re: Lipsync,
Do you guys adjust it for every movie, or can you set a general setting and use it for most films?
Is the lipsync delay caused by the amount of time it takes to process/decode DD, DTS, and DPLII? I am guessing this is the case because I see more delay when listening to a movie with DPLII than when listening to the same movie with Trifield.

The delay is compensating for the time it takes to process the image (in scaler/projector etc), not sound.

Saster,
Then how do you account for my finding that there is more lipsync delay with DPLII than Trifield?

Sorry... lost track of this thread.
The only thing I was saying is that you cannot play sound ahead of image or slow down the image(eternal) to match the sound.
What you can do is delaying the sound to match whatever delay the actual image processing in a scaler or projector scaler adds to the equation.

I think I understand what you are saying. I'll do some testing.
Thanks,
