The HD621 is equipped with 1.3 HDMI chipsets.
This version of HDMI supports 10.2 Gbps bandwidth.
There is no change in the bandwidth limitation with 1.4 version.

Ultra-HD blu-ray are 24 images/s and use a 4:2:0 10bits color subsampling.
With 10.2 Gbps bandwidth, the 1.3 version can handle 4k@30p 4:2:0.

Has someone done some tests with a UHD player and the HD621 to check its compatibility?

It doesn’t support HDCP 2.2, hence the 722.

Looks like HD Fury might be the key.

In this case, a UHD player should downscale the signal to 1080p.

I have read a exemple with a Sony X800 player linked to VPL-HW55 projector through a Marantz 8801.
The signal is downscaled to 1080p 4:4:4 12 bits. And the result seems to be better than a BR disk.

Does the HD621 support this format ?

I’m no expert, but I think you would need more bandwidth than the HD621 could handle for that colour space.

You're rights, Cliff. 4:4:4 is too much for HDMI 1.3
4:2:2 10 or 12 bits is ok.

To give an idea of the percieved gain in resolution when changing the subsampling for the same resolution :

I have checked the outputs of the Panasonic UB700 UHD player.
There are 2 HDMI outputs. One that can be dedicated to the audio and the other for the video only.

I say just about anything...

4:4:4 subsampling it too much for HDMI 1.3 ... for 4k resolution. Not for 1080p
HDMI 1.3 is compatible with 4k@30p 4:2:0 but new HDCP version does not make this possible with 1080p projectors.

So 1080p@24 4:4:4 10/12bits is ok for the HD621

I regularly passed 4K/(24|25) from an Amazon Fire TV through my HD621 using an HD Fury Integral.

Haven't tested HDR metadata through it as I didn't have an HDR capable display at the time.

Do you know for Apple TV and 4K Box TV (equivalent Sky 4K Box) what resolution we require to have 4K on a TV?

To be honest if the HD Fury resolves the 4K issue of the HD621 that would avoid me having to buy a UHD722.
