Hi James,

You cannot use the 3 blue cables to set up the MHR connection between the G98 and G68.

INCORRECT STATEMENT Please read Ian’s post below.

Your MHR out Port on the G98 is a 15 pin female VGA socket on the right hand side of the rear. Your G68 has two MHR inputs with two rows of 3 coax sockets on top of each other, whereas both the older 598 and the 568mm have the single VGA port on both units for the MHR connection.

I don’t know exactly where you have been plugging in all 3 of blue cables into the G98 but it certainly explains your diagnoses. You have been connecting to a single digital out signal with one of your 3 cables and not inputting the 6 discrete channels you think you have, required into the G68. Depending upon where you are plugging the other end of the one “active” blue cable into the 3 MHR coax sockets on the G68, you are getting a nice sound if it is the first socket on the left which is 1/2 - Front left & right. You should be able to see discrete for the two front speakers and use Trifield. The middle socket of the three sockets is 3/4, which are the centre channel and bass inputs. The socket on the right is 7/8 for the rear left and right speaker inputs.

If you use side speakers (5/6) as well as rears, the sound input into these is simulated by the G68. Only the 861v6 and higher has the abillity for 8 discrete channels, i.e., 7.1 sound.

You immediately need to purchase a VGA to component adapter cable which has a VGA male plug at one end and the Red, Blue and Green coax plugs at the other. The VGA plug goes into the G98 and the coax cables are plugged into the 3 phono sockets in the order of Red, Blue and Green from left to right.

EDIT - The correct order for coax MHR inputs with the VGA to coax adapter cord is Green, Blue and Red as the front input is on the right and the rears on the left.

You also need to ensure that you programme the correct MHR connection in MConfig, i.e., upper row or lower row of coax inputs.

As the 598 only has the on MHR connection, I have a mechanical component switch to choose between the HD621 or 598. The 598 is connected to the MHR VGA connector of the 568mm with a VGA to component cable. The HD621 is also connected to the mechanical component switch with a component cable with the RED cable to the front left/right 1/2 channel, the Blue cable is the centre/sub 3/4 channel and the Green cable is the rear left/right 7/8 channel. I have done the experimenting for you already. The mechanical component switch is the connected to the 568mmwith a second VGA to component adapter cable.

As your G68 has two MHR inputs, you will be able to use your 3 Blue Meridian coax cables directly to your next purchase, a now cheaper, secondhand HD621 due to the Upgrade Offer, as I described above. With a HD621 in the system, you will be able to connect all your HDMI sources through your system and have great sound with the picture.

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

Cheers,

Steve M
