To my knowledge, there is no bit-perfect bypass in any Meridian processor except the 518/618. Think about speaker calibration: levels, per-channel delay, absolute phase corrections, bass management, etc.
All recent (since 568?) Meridian processors upsample and resolution enhance PCM as part of their architecture iirc. The HS flag then controls the output rate, but for PCM, it's still been upsampled/REd for internal processing.
