Want to run a G91 to a DVI input LCD computer monitor and play the occasional DVD movie. (dont't watch TV) Have tried 2 HDMI cables - they only work with Spiderman DVD! Guessing LCD is not HDCP compliant (and how does one copy a movie out of an LCD monitor anyway ?!) Anyone found a disable/workaround for HDCP ?
Do Denon's etc have the same HDMI/HDCP prob? Can a component signal be converted to DVI or RGB ? Maybe the answer is a laptop with DVI out and digital audio out for G91. Anyone do this ? PS Why do consumers have to put up with this nutiness - regional coding, HDCP for monitors, noise added to audio disks etc !!!!!!!!!!!!

I know this is REALLY annoying and I have pointed this out numerous times, THE PIRATES DON'T DO IMAGE COPY, THEY RIP FROM THE SOURCE DVD'S DIRECTLY, cheaper faster better etc. For people that need HDCP capability there are boxes that remove the HDCP encryption so that you can use your legacy display. http://www.digitalconnection.com/products/video/ddd12p.asp This device can be used to connect non-HDCP displays to HDMI players like the G91...

Does it? I don't see anything in the blurb that implies that it does.

Wow! Thanks for that link crion!
Next time the "trouble and strife" says "you mean it costs as much as a car and you don't have a bit of wire to connect it to the LCD so that I can watch MeatLoaf ?" the reply will be "well actually ......."

I know that I have mentioned this on other threads but, as far as I can see, the big problem which may cripple the introduction of HD formats (don't care which!) is the forced obsolescence of my existing analogue input display gear if I want to enjoy the "benefits" of HD video.
As HDCP makes it impossible (and illegal) to get an analogue feed - RGB, component etc - in HD this might make even an enthusiast like me say "sod it" and stay with my pretty good analogue scaler etc. As it is us well informed quality sensitive souls who generally support the introduction of these new formats this seems a crazy idea by those who think that this will stop disc cloning.
Yes, I know that there are devices like the Digital Connection transcoder (how long before they get sued?) but SDI to a scaler looks a better bet at the moment.

I had a look at the DD-D12P manual. In the troubleshooting section it says "1. No picture - In case your video source is HDCP enabled, make sure your video display is HDCP compliant."
Comments please ?

Note that any DVI / HDMI device can be revoked. Crion - By posting the link you have ensured that future sources will not work with that box.

What I still fail to understand is the revocation policy. Let's say that pioneer produce a hi-def DVD player and manages to shift half a million of these worldwide. And let's also say that some Scandinavian kid decides to kill the winter boredom by successfully cracking or bypassing its hdcp. Word gets around and eventually the hdcp license for that player is revoked. Who compensates the 495,000 owners who who did nothing wrong and who can no longer use a product that is now unfit for the purposes for which it was bought?

they can pull pioneer's license to produce HDCP stuff. and presumably they can change the monitor keys to not work with that player moving forward. but they can't magically change the crypto on your in-the-field player and/or monitor to stop working retroactively.

Doody -
I think devices such as Sky's HD box would be a little more concerning - presumably Sky could quite easily update the box via the satellite feed to stop it working with certain kit if they wanted to.
