I've just watched it and I agree with daglesj. There was a mic open somewhere as I could clearly hear people laughing and chatting in the background at that point. Very irritating.

No open mic on the broadcast up here (and I watched it again tonight from last night's tape). Us canny Scots know how to switch the microphones off. T'would be a waste of thon expensive electricity otherwise.

The recording I watched was from BBC Wales.

I wonder if our US friends are watching this thread bemused?
It worked for me but there was a little too much action/violence and not enough thinking and inspiration; "Ah, Leela, of course, it was the ....." etc.
Liked the subtle humour and references e.g. "Why have you got a northern accent?".
The sound was balanced very heavily to the rear (PLIIxTHX) in the first ten minutes, then softened out, losing dynamics.
But the TARDIS noice took me back forty years.

Yeah. The "lots of planets have a North" line was most amusing.

I must admit that at first I assumed the noise was meant to be a television playing in someone's office, but then it disappeared completely. Also it was in stereo across the whole soundstage which put paid to that idea.

I think that the open mike noise was Mr Norton and Strictly something.

So, one episode aired, and he announces he's packing it in? Shabby stuff from the boy Eccleston!

Apologies to yourself Mlssoccerrules, and to everyone else who is bemused by all this! Dr Who is a bit of a British TV Scifi institution. It started in the early 1960s, and had a change of lead actor (playing "the doctor") every few years. It became pretty rubbishy through the 1980s, and was eventually dropped in 1989. It's just been resurrected after 16 years (a bit like when Star Trek: The Next Generation came along) , and they have a really good credible actor as the doctor and a decent scriptwriter too. They also have budget for special effects now. The show was always known for it's dreadful (yet much loved) SFX in bygone years. Now you know! http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/ Cheers George [This message has been edited by Mr Meridian (edited 03-31-2005).]

They are ripped in America from HD broadcasts. I take it you're talking about BT Efnet?
I find the quality to be similar to our digital broadcasting though as the hi definition is not retained in the rip.
