Just fixed it. There is a multi-cable connector from the HDD, not the thick pink one, and it had come apart at a connector just inside the C15, and I could not see it because it was tucked behind other connectors, until I started pulling the cables around.
It now starts properly and the play controls work, so Bruce was quite correct about the battery.
Thanks for everyone's interest and help.
Ross.

I took a dead C10 to Bruce and it took him less than 20 minutes to have it up and running again which was just enough time to finish the tumbler of Johnny Walker Blue Label he offers when I visit.

Hey guys,
Now I'm having a similar problem with my Sooloos not playing except to desktop and I am now using my recently acquired MD600 as core (C15 still out of action as I can't work out how to get to the CMOS battery!) with MS600 as the endpoint. Is there a CMOS battery in the MD600 worth changing?
I'll add that when I run the Sooloos configurator it finds everything on my network straight away and MD600 is correctly set up as core.
When I run Control:PC and go to settings I only see my PC as an available zone.
When I try and run Touch PC it is constantly searching for my system core which seems crazy as it lets me enter device manager and shows my MS600 and MD600 (as core) right before my eyes so it must be finding it!
My MS600, MD600 and Touch PC have all been assigned different IP addresses if that's a sign of the cause?
My whole house is wired up with Ethernet sockets routing back to the main BT Smarthub router so everything should be talking to each other. Other than a possible CMOS battery fault with the MD600 I'm completely stuck. Tried the turn everything off / on + reset router trick but to no avail.
Any advice greatly appreciated - including those C15 tips too Bruce if you have them to hand!?
Thanks, Simon Cursed M owner!

Buy yourself a basic unmanaged/non-smart network switch (recommend a Netgear such as GS105/108 as they are known to work) and plug everything you have going into the BT Hub into that instead, then plug the switch into the BT Hub.
If you are going to use it for Sooloos devices only, then you only need a 10/100Mb version (unless you backup to a NAS) as all Sooloos devices except for stores are 10/100 not Gb, but tbh, Gigabit is more flexible a unit.

GS108 installed and no further forward unfortunately. Network rebooted, single cable going from BT smarthub into the switch which then links the rest of the house.
Sooloostouch interface just refuses to accept my MD600 as the core and therefore won't load - even though in its own device manager it clearly sees it and has the core box checked.
Control:PC works fine but not the best solution especially given my C15 has died.
Probs with the MS600 were resolved by finding that the power plug to the BT router wasn't fully in so at least that was simple but unfortunately the switch has made no difference.
Any suggestions much appreciated before I through this thing out the window!

Shame about the switch. Its worth keeping it in as its probably best practice.
Its not clear what is not working. Is it just touchPC? If so did it ever work? Are you running it as Admin - right click, run as admin from an admin account. I never had much success on coup,e of times i tried it unless i relaxed pretty much all protection to run it.

Hi Simon,
A bunch of questions for your consideration:
Has the MD600 been used as Sooloos Core before in your system? Is the MD600 on the same subnet as your other equipment? Is it using DHCP assigned or fixed IP address? Have you checked for IP address conflicts? What happens if you point a web browser at the MD600?

Hi Carl, I'll do my best with the questions:
Has the MD600 been used as Sooloos Core before in your system?
No. I recently purchased this from another Hiker who had it set up as a core on his system with no probs. I simply ran the restore through Control:PC to upload my backed up music from my dead C15.
Is the MD600 on the same subnet as your other equipment?
All equipment starts with 192.168.1.xxx Not sure if this indicates they are on the same subnet but happy to do some digging if you can guide me
Is it using DHCP assigned or fixed IP address?
DHCP
Have you checked for IP address conflicts?
No IP addresses on my system are duplicated if that answers the question - all are set as DHCP.
In the Sooloos Config program the MD600 does have 3 separate entries of 192.168.1.74 but only the entry stating "4TB media" can be accessed to enable core, storage and DHCP - may not be related to my issues.
What happens if you point a web browser at the MD600?
Pointing a web browser at the MD600 loads the webclient which works fine.
I tried turning off the firewall in windows defender and the router too.
Cheers, Simon

Can I ask for a second look at the issues I'm having with Touch PC.
A couple of questions I probably should have asked first:
Is anyone running Touch PC with an MD600?
... and for anyone who is, is there anyone also running it on 'BT fibre to the home' infrastructure?
Just so I'm not trying to make something work that isn't actually supported.
Cheers, Simon

FWIW, my AirPort Extreme is connected to my VM router. Supposedly, in 'modem mode' my VM router should seamless connect with my AirPort Extreme. It doesn't. My AirPort Extreme works as it should when its simply connected to the VM router in conventional 'non-modem' mode.
Just a thought, maybe your BT hub is behaving in a similar manner.
