We didn’t talk technical with Meridian on the day but essentially the 218 will do all an MS200 does and more. Those 5200’s with the sub sounded sublime even though placement and set up wasn’t optimal. Thanks Tom.
When comparing the tape to the MQA version of a song it was noted by Nick, that you couldn’t hear any tape hiss with MQA. This, I reason, is because you're listening to the sound of the studio as it is recorded, and not the recording committed to tape.
The idea of being able to add some hiss to taste was suggested...

That conversation did make me wonder about the effect of MQA. The role of the engineer tuning the sound around microphones and recording devices could be lost; sure we get the sound as recorded but not as intended IYSWIM?
I am just checking out the Tidal Led Zep MQA remasters. The massive distortion (tape overload?) at 3:05-3:12 in "Whole Lotta Love" is still there. And the Houses of the Holy album appears to have retained the hiss... They both sound very good.

It took a while to work out IYSWIM but eventually, I do see. I assume it’s a case by case decision in the ‘White Glove’ treatment. It’s a shock to hear it that fresh, almost as if it’s not supposed to be that good.
Back in the day, if they could have released it sounding that good, would they?...
Just enjoying Montrose that has been remastered and released in MQA. Never heard it this good before.

Apologies for my assumption that IYSWIM was common usage...

Well it is now, no apology required. IYSWIM

Just curious but, the 218 was essentially the replacement for the MS200 and added features. With your 5200SE's the 218 would certainly outperform the MS200 with the addition of MQA. Not wanting to drag the thread off topic - in some ways, 218 replaces and improves on the AC200/MS200 combo but has, for some, missing features which doesn't make it a no-brainer replacement (see discussions passim). It could be used to replace only the MS200, I agree, but this feels a little kludgy to me. That being said, I'm getting to the point where, if there is nothing visible on the horizon, I might well take the plunge and get me some MQA goodness - even if I replace it with a more capable device in the future. I have already made changes elsewhere in the system which mean I no longer require the additional inputs provided by the AC200. But we digress... [Postscript - I just noticed that this was my 218th post... The Universe is telling me something]

I've only just got home after an extended tour following the Huntingdon event, so a little late with my thanks. I can only reiterate what everyone has already said, namely that it was a very positive event, well organised and hopefully not the last.
My thanks go to all involved, as there were many contributors to this working so well; Tom for his 218/5200SEs, Rick for his knowledge and generosity, John and Rayner for their positive presence from Meridian. Indeed everyone in attendance, for making it a friendly but well informed and healthy area for discussions.
I cannot help but single out Nick for both organising and presiding over the event. I thought your tone and manner was perfect for this, and you have my nomination as MC for next year's follow up event!

I'm just wondering.... ChrisLayer says the group "didn't talk technical with Meridian on the day"; did you stick to your pre-agreed list of questions? I seem to remember that Nick & the group were drawing up a list of topics to discuss with Meridian; did this go ahead, as not much in the way of facts / roadmap / products info appears to have come out of the meeting. I seem to remember that Nick had proposed submitting such a list to Meridian ahead of the meet. It sounds like everyone had a great time, which is lovely, but was the meeting in any way a disappointment in that you couldn't (apparently) get any future plans from Meridian?

Nick and Rick,
My sincere thanks for organizing a great day and being so generous sponsoring the lunch. It was much appreciated by all.
Sadly I missed the final session due to other commitments. Can I ask which Wagner piece it was that Nick promised (if there was time) to demonstrate on the tape machine?
It was also a pleasure to see again those Hitchhikers I’d met before, and to put faces to some of those I had not met before.
Regards,
Dominic

Was that Dave Brubeck track, Three to Get Ready, in MQA? I cannot find it on Tidal in that format.
It sounds nowhere near as good on my 818v3/DSP33 system in FLAC ripped from CD.
