Still they come; worth checking back on favourites/artists from time to time - some of these were not in MQA versions yesterday.

Karajan: Boheme with Pavarotti.
Thielemann: Complete Ring Cycle, Elektra
Giuliano Carmignola: Vivaldi concertos
Yundi: Beethoven
Trio di Parma: Schubert Trios
Petibon, Bartoli, Kozena, Garanca recitals

Steve Miller Band: Greatest
Rolling Stones: Satanic Majesties
Ella: All the Songbooks, including now Gershwin, Berlin, Rodgers and Hart
Stevie: Songs in the Key of Life
Benny Andersson: Piano

Thank you again, I might have to call you Pathfinder.

I sampled the Walkure Prelude to Act 1 from Thielemann's Ring in MQA - it sounded terrible. Volume levels were very low, sounds muted and hardly any dynamic range. Do let me know if you have similar observations ?

His Elektra though was stunning and the huge orchestra doesnt mix into a soup of sound under MQA.

Yes the Thielemann Ring does sound awful. Scene 4 of 'Rheingold' when Alberich summons the horde was so weak and thin it destroyed the music's power. Worse though is Linda Watson's Brunnhilde. I cannot fathom why she was given this role, having heard her very off-pitch and wobbly Ortrud at Bayreuth years ago.

More hopeful, the Krystian Zimermann Schubert is now in MQA.

And I think we must be near the end of the Universal coding of what was already available in Hi Res...'The Art of the Prima Donna' is now in MQA, though hasn't come through to Roon for me yet.

I wonder if going forward they will have to do a fresh remaster of the back catalogue, and that we may get better transfers to MQA? The forthcoming Warner Classics may answer that.

Must be over 5,000 available now?

Very sorry to hear this about the Thielemann Ring. I was interested in it having just found his Strauss Alpensinfonie (on a single-layer SACD) which I thought was really good. (I don't know the piece that well but have a few others, which had left me cold.)

Very sadly, one of my favourite all-time soundtracks also sounded crap in MQA - Raiders of the lost Ark. I thought it sounded thin and tinny. I'm sure it's the master quality, but MQA doesn't, of course, hide this!

Thielemann is great in Strauss and Wagner, and as BT suggested the sound is very quiet, so it seems like a fundamental mastering problem. Rheingold and Walkure have pretty good casts, so they should have been well worth a listen. I guess as it doesn't involve pressings, perhaps its possible to re-do the albums.

Wonder whether we should send mails to MQA to let them know? Or Tidal? Or Charles Hansen....

Lumin continues to update the list of MQA Titles and it is now over 4500. Most duplicates have been removed by picking just one title at random. Some titles are still missing and as they note availability is still region specific.

May I request that a mod posts a link to the dynamic list in a sticky thread at the top of this sub-forum?

Would save a little faffing...

Thx

Hi Jim,

How do we help them add titles? I can see the gaps, and some relate to metadata e.g. the Solti and Thielemann Ring's will both show as Wiener Staatsoper. But there is some great stuff not on there yet, and not down to regional restrictions I would guess.

I trawl for myself and fellow Hitchhikers, though inevitably have my own interests; apologies to jazz aficionados.

If nothing else, it is a pleasing rebuttal to the vaporware poisoners..

The Thielemann Ring happily is a rare exception. Ashkenazy Rach, Britten War Requiem, Karajan Tchaikovsky 5, Kleiber Beethoven 5&7, his dad doing Figaro, Bohm Mozart Symphonies, Takacs Serioso, Bernie Faust Symphony. Wow these are all sounding SO GOOD. It's hard to listen to FLAC anymore except some recent recordings.

I can't wait till we get some Szell, Gardiner, Haroncourt, more Abbado especially with Lucerne forces. Levine and the Met team too.

I don't know anything about Google Doc's so the method for properly adding titles is for someone else to comment on. I just provided the link to what Lumin Audio has been providing.
