Does anyone know if the G68 will be upgradeable to incorporate the forthcoming Dolby Digital Plus and DTS Plus etc?

If so, will it be a question of software or hardware changes?

Cheers

Lee:

Unknown at this time, as it depends on how much DSP horsepower is required. The same is true for 861. G68 and 861 share a common core DSP section, four of the Freescale (previously known as Motorola) 56367.

In addition, it's not certain whether this will be delivered via an SPDIF connection or whether it will be delivered via an HDMI connection. If via HDMI, and it doesn't exceed 24/96K then (I think) the existing core will suffice.

I don't know how much horsepower is left over in the core DSP but others might chime in with this answer.

Cheers,

Note that I just addressed the DSP core, as without sufficient DSP core power it's a really big job [Linked Image from softronix.com]

If delivered via HDMI, then the G68 (and 861) needs an HDMI for audio input.

THe positive side, is that this would allow 24/192K for stereo audio to be transferred [Linked Image from softronix.com]

Thanks John,

I am just considering my options atm.

I recently sold my 568.2 because I fear the resale value will fall through the floor once the new formats arrive.

I was just wondering what other people's thoughts were on this.

Cheers
