I am way out of my league here, but note that if I turn off LMS and use ROON and its LMS emulator, I DO get MQA through the Touch EDO into the Meridian Prime. Best I can make out is that ROON uses the slimproto protocol which allows this. Kudos to ROON. In all the reading I did, I did not come across anything that explained how M. Herger implemented the native Tidal App for LMS, but I would agree your conclusion Lee, that it is obviously on the LMS side and how it deals with the TIDAL streaming service (since we both confirmed local hi - res files also play without issue). the issue with using ROON in lieu of LMS on squeezebox devices is that you cannot have LMS and ROON coexist at the same IP address. this is an issue when you have some squeeze devices you want on ROON and some on LMS (ie. my radio alarms) and you want the same hardware to run both servers without virtualizing them (which no one would do in their right mind residentially). My conclusion is that for MQA benefits, the SBT is dead, long live the Touch. SlimProto Discussion vis-a-vis ROON

Can you use a second NIC and use one for Roon and one for LMS? Its then going to be down to if one or other allows you to define which NIC it binds to.

a Second NIC may work too I would suppose; not a bad idea.
I guess the fundamental issue is what gyrations make sense so MQA can be played. before I buy a nic, I think I buy another roon ready streamer and be done with it in light of LMS not being able to pass bit perfect onto an MQA piece of hardware.

That might be a bit hasty, I've seen a couple of questions raised on the slim devices forum over the last few days about squeeze boxes and MQA. The guys there tend to come back relatively quickly, lets add our weight to the question.

If anyone could change the protocol to make it work, M. Herger could. his work is really remarkable on LMS. What an asset to Logitech he is. please post forum links so we all can see the discussion.

Another discussion has popped up elsewhere on the forum slimdevices MQA thread 2.

That's great... Lee you should weigh in and ask Michael Herger to code the Tidal plugin to pass the file at bit perfect 24 bits so it will work. I am sure that they limited bandwidth because they didn't think they would need it with TIDAL streams initially.

An update on this thread. I have downloaded a number of Nordic sound MQA tracks today from 2L and saved them to my LMS library.
These tracks are playing in full MQA format via the touch, EDO plugin into the explorer2, blue light illuminated. And mighty fine they are too.
Clearly LMS is capable of passing through as it should, the problems we are having must therefore be isolated to the Tidal plugin interface.

Dear me, some pretty brutal mudslinging going on over at the slim devices forum on the MQA via LMS subject. Unfortunately no resolution yet however... Lee

Just musing on this again following the recent thread in the streaming area. It seems that licensing is the blocker with LMS for MQA via the tidal plugins according to a couple of veteran contributors on the slim devices forum (note however no official response from M Herger the plugin developer).
Can I ask those HH'ers with a handle on the licensing technicalities, will there be any proprietorary block to purely passing through the folded MQA material via tidal for passing into a prime or explorer 2 for example via a LMS plugin? Or is it about the bit perfect technical aspect?
I appreciate if it's the latter then I guess it would be asking the unpaid devs to make changes to a long standing plugin for the small number of users with MQA ready kit. But I am curious and possibly remain hopeful given the lack of definitive response from the developer in question that something may change in the future.

will there be any proprietorary block to purely passing through the unfolded MQA material via tidal for passing into a prime or explorer 2 for example via a LMS plugin? And how might that work? TIDAL MQA stage one decoding happens in their app on PC and Mac. Edit: sorry, did you mean folded?
