8 years !! I would at least replace the switching power supply if it's that old. They are fairly cheap and easy to replace.

Problem is, I couldn't get £600 for my G68 recently, so the thought of spending £500 on putting a new PSU in to see if I can hear a difference is not all that appealing. I thought long and hard about that. But living on the Isle of Man with no dealers etc. I opted for M to do it. It does sound better but not £700 better! Hopefully, it will last for years!

The ONLY reason I had my G61 upgraded was piece of mind in lowering the risk of it frying itself (which happened twice on the G68 and took other boards with it BOTH times).
It's running MUCH cooler than the G68 ever did with Switching Power Supply (all 3). G61 cabinet feels at room temp on standby with factory LPS. Where G68 always felt warm (even in winter) and sometimes fairly hot, on a hot summer day with a Movie playing (which I have not done yet on the G61).
I even had a fan added to the G61, but I doubt it will ever come on. Same here lol

My G68J started showing what I thought were some worrying signs - occasional minor thuds through the subwoofer while on standby, volume control sluggish and very occasionally the centre channel would stop working until it was rebooted. I had bought it secondhand through the restaurant around 6 years ago and when I opened it up I discovered it still had the original UMEC power supply which allegedly could fail high and take out some boards with it. Around the same time I noticed a G68XXV on eBay being sold by a dealer I had done business with before and decided to go for it and asked them to upgrade it to the Meridian Linear PSU at the same time. I have to say I'm really pleased with the sound of the new (to me) G68. It really seems like a very decent step up - but I do realise that I've changed multiple things at once. As well as the PSU change I'm now able to use balanced connections to my Bryston power amp and I suspect that the balanced output boards on the G68 may have a slightly different sonic balance as well as better noise immunity. I liked the sound so much I ended up buying a Raspberry PI and a lifetime Roon subscription . The only "downside" is that I still get the occasional minor thuds through the subwoofer (probably something electrically noisy in the neighbourhood) and I've also had the center channel dropout on the new G68 (it only seems to happen with the optical out from my Sony Android TV so it's probably the TV). I've fitted a new XP power supply to the G68J and it seems to be running fine but given the prices they seem to be going for just now I'll probably hold on to it as a spare. -Ronnie

Glzze, what did you find in the end?
I’d like to upgrade my G68ADV before the switcher dies.
An external supply would be fine but the hassle of finding a case, making cables, etc isn’t appealing. I’ll do some digging to see if I can find one already in a case... Might even be able to use it to supply other gear as well...

I didn't, I sold the G68 in the end.
Moved away from DSPs, regretting it. Haha.
Blip Longitude0 a PM as he has a spare linear one that will work. I was going to grab it and completely forget to be honest.
Although shipping maybe too expensive. But he can tell you what the part/model is he used and maybe source locally?

Try Marc Koval. He fitted a new linear power supply and recapped my G68. Sounds great.
