Depending on bedroom space, a Naim MuSo or MuSo-Qb (much smaller) I have both and the SQ is superb (& I was a NAIM hater), they look pretty good too.

They also work well as Roon endpoints and are worth a listen.

The Bluesound Pulse 2 is my replacement for my F80.
It also decodes MQA currently only through BluOS app but a fix for Roon is promised, and is a Roon endpoint.

GIK monster bass panels, rear wall. QNAP TVS 471i3. Roon into DSP5200SE via 210/ 218 zone... Explorer 2. Bluesound Pulse 2, Mini & Flex. 596v1, 518, Foxsat HD, Sony BDP, Pioneer 5090, 2 Chromecast's for LRB videos. MS200 to F80 for a Roon zone

I think the list has grown. This is a list of the brands that appear on Roon and MQA, as partners.

Ayre - unconfirmed MQA
Bel canto
Bluesound
Cary
DCS
Krell
Lumin
Meridian
NAD
Onkyo/Integral

I don't see Ayre on the MQA list yet, despite rumors.

roon partners

Updated

Will at some point look to see what players actually support both within the brand.

Hard to believe that some of the MQA brands are not Roon ready. Brinkmann, MSB, Berkeley Audio and mark Levinson. All pretty major names in the space and no roon. Somewhat hard to believe..

Now, if M would just build a new M80 with the 218 in its base I'd buy a couple.

Main system - Sources (Kodi-HTPC, Vero 4k, FireTV, Sat) into Trinnov Altitude 32 (8-16) (+Roon), Trinnov Amplitude 8 amp & Vivid Audio (Giya G3, V1.5) and REL Stentor III speakers. Others: F80 + Raspberry Pi and other Pi systems.

That's kind of what Bluesound have done with the Pulse 2. It's what the F80 should have evolved into I believe. It's Roon Ready but I don't think Sooloos would see it. I had to buy one as I couldn't wait for Meridian to come up with something, if indeed they ever will.

Speaking with my distributer here, it doesn't sound like anything is coming forth. Both the F/M80s-88s, and the MC200 are likely to be legacied. The younger generation is more headphone friendly. M will focus on DSPs for which 3200 are fit quite snug in small rooms.

Thanks for the tip on Bluesound, Sooloos can out to 218 and then Bluesound takes the full MQA signal. I will check it out. Thanks also the everyone who recommended. I will miss the balance F80 achieves in sound picture when it finally packs up.

Back on-topic....

I've now received & installed my 218 with some expert support... smirk

So now the 218 is set-up 'in series' with my 861v8 & hooked up to Roon.

First impressions - playing familiar material - purchased or streamed through Roon/Tidal - is as I've experienced with my Explorer2 : there's simply more definition & clarity - particularly with percussion & bass, but I've also noticed that vocals are easier to understand and that effects e.g. echo & reverb are more noticeable.
This all makes the music easier to listen to - definitely more natural & detailed.

Perhaps I've drunk too much kool-aid & am also suffering from expectation bias due to the not-insignificant investment, but I genuinely think this is a real step change in resolution - and for me - enjoyment !

Rolski

Thanks for the info. I have a very similar setup so I am a bit more curious about the exact how.....Could you provide some clarifications on what you mean by your "in-serie" setup?

Are you implying that your 218 is sitting between the SL master out of your 861 and your speakers? 861 master SL out-->218SL input-->218SL out L+R-->8000L+R

How did you configure the 218 sources and volume? Do you have any issues like Tartan did?

Cheers

Alain
