Fetch or store won't work if the USB connection isn't working

Have you installed the FTDI virtual com drivers. The 'USB' on a G6x is really a serial port with FTDI USB/Serial converter so behaves exactly as if you had an external USB/Serial converter.

Very helpful tips here that are getting me closer and closer.
No.1 USE THE MAINTENANCE USB PORT! Doh ....
I also needed to enable Port 1: Com1 in VirtualBox settings so that when Windows woke up it thought it had one.
I've also checked the USB to use in the VM menus
I have installed the USB/Serial driver as set out here and on M's website.
However, it doesn't look like the driver is happy ....
Also, the G61 goes to a blank screen when the USB is connected and unit turned on (but I think that's how it is supposed to be in config mode?)

Windows 7 (or later) is 10x easier to deal with drivers than XP.

If you think listening to music is fun, try learning an instrument. HT: G61RSL, 4x5K, 5.5KHC, 2xSC6000, Transporter, HD621, Philips BDP7501 4K, Tivo, 65" LG OLED 4K C6 Computer: Foobar2000, 5K, Mojo, HiFiMan HE1000 V2
I dont have a Windows 7 licence hanging about (and have put a lot into getting XP almost there ... tantalisingly close ....)
Maybe I'll have to ditch this and try another way .... unless someone can spot a fix on how the driver isn't playing nice

I use XP to run mconfig. However my PC has a real serial port

I've had mixed results with VirtualBox and USB. Infact I'm struggling to remember what, if any, I got to work but it would have either been FTDI, prolific or Explorer.
Try this link if you have not already as starter. but it does relate to a Windows not OSX host.
I use VirtualBox on a daily basis, it's pretty good but not perfect and one version may work and another may not - it's normally subtle stuff though. The joys of free software.

There is no accounting for user error (i.e. I am an idiot).
I downloaded the FTDI driver for Windows but didn't check the small print. It's for Windows 7 and above. I had to scroll down the page to the legacy unsupported drivers to find the old driver for Windows XP. Install, connect USB device (G61R), tickbox VM USB connection from host to guest OS, Windows did a "new hardware" install and suggested a reboot. Fired up MCongif and it immediately recognised the G61R ....
I think it was also important to have the VM Box Guest Editions installed in XP to get the USB working, along with activating the Com ports and USB 2.0 (not 1.1) in the VM host settings......
Thanks for all the help on the way. Maybe this thread will help others in the future ....
Now for some configuring!
