As the title really, is there any current links for a Linear PSU for my G68?
I have spent last night reading all the posts but can't seem to find any threads showing where to buy them currently etc.
Many thanks
G

While I am sure that eventually someone will figure out who manufactures and supplies the torriodal transformer that comes in a LPSU upgrade kit, what you wont get is the mounting bracket and other goodies that make the replacement clean, simple, and safe. Please keep in mind that an LPS weighs at least 20 times more than the switch mode version and will need to be securely mounted to the G68 chassis. In the 8 series units the LPS kit includes a backing plate to reinforce the chassis where the LPS bracket bolts to.

Thanks for that.
Problem is, I couldn't get £600 for my G68 recently, so the thought of spending £500 on putting a new PSU in to see if I can hear a difference is not all that appealing. Haha

Bruce;
The torrid is a custom wound unit. Not an off the shelf unit.
If you want one you will need to buy from Meridian.

I don't care if I have to modify it at all, just that there are quite a few threads from people like Nick who added Linear supplies, but those threads are now a bit out of date.
Even an external one would be fine.
Any ideas folks?

I had a look at doing it myself once. You can find, occasionally, second hand linear PSUs that are suitable for £100+ on eBay, that will fit the space in a G68 with modification. I could not see that I could buy anything new that was suitable or cost effective or make something compact enough to fit. I also questioned the benefit in a G68 of a linear PSU in my system since I only use it as a digital preamp/controller and could not see how it would help (better power reserves, less supersonic noise, lower source impedance?) so gave up.

The ONLY reason I had my G61 upgraded was piece of mind in lowering the risk of it frying itself (which happened twice on the G68 and took other boards with it BOTH times).
It's running MUCH cooler than the G68 ever did with Switching Power Supply (all 3). G61 cabinet feels at room temp on standby with factory LPS. Where G68 always felt warm (even in winter) and sometimes fairly hot, on a hot summer day with a Movie playing (which I have not done yet on the G61).
I even had a fan added to the G61, but I doubt it will ever come on.

Wavetrain, the M distributor in Oz has recommended that I get a linear PSU for my G68, I was quoted $300 - 400 Australian, including fitting.
I am holding out, hoping my Thor smart power 10 will keep things smooth enough to get many more years out of my switched PSU.

Yeah I guess Fiddler. Been lucky for the last 8 years, don't want to push it. Best to get it done
