Well, if your TV source is optical and the output goes to the 218 the 218 won't know where to look for it. If in the 218 the source is SpeakerLink you will get that feed.

Source in G65 opt source in 218 SPL.

That makes sense to me but will it pass (say) Trifield processing in the processor?

The MSC200 output would go to the 218 via the processor with MQA untouched perhaps leaving the 218 to decode MQA

I guess the sources configuration means that all sources except Sooloos have to be an input on the G65-so a standard configuration.
The 218 sources are not valid, except untill you select Sooloos-
thats the only source for the 218.
So in summary, all standard sources runs over the G65 then trough the 218(L+R).
Center and surround over the G65 only.
With Sooloos you only can run 2channels(L+R) direct from the ethernet input on the 218 to the L+R DSP.
But iam not Meridian, so please ask M again to get more details or the correct info

i currently have an MC200 that goes into the g65 and HD621 with lots of other stuff. If i hit the CD source on the MSR i get the MC200.

I assume they are saying i need to attribute a new MSR source button to be the 218 soloos, and also program the 218 with all my other sources so that when they are selected the 218 just passes through the outputs from the G65.

Do you have to use Mconfig to setup 218 - with the (USB - serial) -->(serial - cat) ----> 218 Ethernet input [the same way you upgrade firmware on dsp5200 speakers]

or can you do it with the Sooloos Control:PC program?

The 218 is set up by it's own web address and the IP Control app, plus Sooloos Config. For any software updates it will get them like Sooloos end points do.

With this setup it is easy switch between ID41 and 218 as input via TouchPC

PS You must use the slave speakerlink output from 218.

Herman, with this setup do you have room correction involved? If you do wouldn't this break the MQA signal?

I think he's accepting that he's only going to get a partial 218 MQA decode (to max 96/24) as an input to his 861. At that point, the 861 can do whatever it likes, but the SEs won't be able to unfold further.

Note that there is no bit-perfect bypass mode in a G6x or 861 processor.

Do you mean the -3dB or other issues?

There is time alignment code, bass management code (though hopefully not in Direct!), and MRC, and probably also resolution enhancement code on the digital inputs. -3dB should be a thing of the past in Direct.

Me too, I finally got the unit installed and figured out how to hear music (Roon setup doh). Many thanks to Ian at Martins Hifi for his patience.

Can anyone help though with how to switch sources?

I only have the 218 plugged directly into a G57, and my TV into the 218 but I cannot switch between them? im using Roon.

Should I also connect a link wire between the 218 and G57, is that the problem?

You would switch between the inputs using the control app.
