Need something rather more heavy duty for DSP speakers though, right?

No mention of restrictions on power handling (that I can see) it doesn't use power simply blocks DC. Per-Anders who sells/designs this is very helpful and answered a question from me very quickly. They're not expensive so one for each DSP if you have noisy toroidals isn't that big an investment. The linked page has a guy running monoblock amps off one.

For £50 a pop, that seems an excellent solution. What other parts did you use? Case etc.

There is mention of a higher power version on this page. Looks like the Varistor is the limiting component.

Quote
Since some people need a more power, a DC Blocker version with C19 IN and OUT Mains connectors is offered too (see pictures in the gallery). This version does not have fuse and varistor on the input – just C19 input socket -> DC Blocker board -> C19 output socket. This allows the max. handled current to be raised to 15A.

I think it ended up about £25-30 to build one house it in a suitable (if slightly bigger than truly required) ABS plastic box and an appropriate IEC switched and fused* input socket and matching output socket.

And the joy of building something that worked! Most difficult thing was cutting holes in the box to neatly fit the power sockets.

* I fitted an identical fuse to the one in the G95 mains input socket and would propose to swap it for an appropriate value to match whatever else I plugged into it in future.

From Per-Anders:

6 amps fuse rating is max and can handle transients involved.

No, I sell only the pcb.

The Sjostrom Audio web page is showing the bare PCB and built units so I guess he's meaning he doesn't sell them boxed and ready to use?

6 amps (just shy of 1.5kw at 240 volts) should manage most kit I have, the bigger DSPs I'd want to check and think about 1 per speaker? Despite my noisy mains I've not been bothered by buzzing PS in my DSPs. I did have my M80 quite noisy once though!

The Altaudio unit I linked does come as a built unit boxed to use and is a very similar design, the HFWW link you posted suggests they have a good following too.

Just tried PSU at work and it's not silent, but I think better than the other one - I seemed to have go get a bit closer to hear it - my other one I could hear 2m away. Of course, my home and work may have equally poor mains, or the hum at work is 'normal' (and I'm just over sensitive) and it's worse at home - in which case a filter may be the way to go.

So I'm hoping to take Nick up on his offer and try it at his place. That will also give a second opinion and a point of reference.

Difficult to judge from work environment, but if the PSU was on my bedside table at night, it would be audible.

I think Nick still has the PS Audio power conditioner, it would be interesting to try it through that assuming it is available as an option if you still hear the hum on his mains supply?
