It's not so much what you say George, it is the way the you say it.
You have a very patronising tone, you sound like the liberal left mocking anyone with a different opinion to their own. I think right now many have had enough of being spoken to like that. It is everywhere and forums like this should be an escape.
Apodising has a way to 'blur' the noise you get from digital time smearing to make it more pleasurable to listen to, MQA is a way to rid it completely. I am sure in a few years time something else may come along that is even more clever.
When I say blur, I mean there is overlap between the history of Apodizing and various filter trade offs and what MQA is doing today and worth discussing. That's all. Blur was a bad word, how about overlap. Geesh.
I feel talked down to from the day I posted that I felt I heard no benefit from MQA and preferred the Chord over Explorer 2 or Prime. Like I was diseased or broken or something.
I like to understand technically if there is any merit to what my ears think.
My comment of, never having had goose bumps was a bit snarky, but also way over reacted to, because folks know how I feel about MQA. And it was somewhat a snarky way of saying, wouldn't the original 24/192 or even 16/44 also generate goose bumps on Awesome 8000SE speakers with a 818 or what ever.
I would sure hope so.
There may certainly be Merit in MQA. I've read tons on it all over and most people that DO say it works, say it's subtle improvement. Any improvement at this level is respectable !!
And I've seen similar comments by others disgusted when they see comments like first progress in 30 year, tears going down faces.
I see the same comments on someone switching headphone cables.
You just don't know if you are comparing MQA to something are you comparing the same exact mix. That is very difficult to determine. And it's automatically credited to "MQA". It might be, but there is no proof.
Once some good MQA ADC Converters are available some unbiased testing can be done side by side using MQA and not using MQA.
Until then, I'm suspicious.
And for the record I'm suspicious of any format over 20/48 as sounding any better (even if it's technically in there and captured). The limitations of home environments, speakers and human ears preclude hearing anything more. IMHO.
And I'll be totally honest.
When I received my HE1000's and compared those side by side to HD700's. Suddenly the HD700's sounded MUCH better !!
Why because my brain EXPECTED the HD700's to sound 1/3 as good as the HIFIMan X I returned (the day before !!).
I prefer the HE1000's over HD700, but the difference was not nearly as huge as my brain thought (recalling from memory).
Comparing anything from memory is dangerous. Period. Can't be done.
And I know Most Meridian MQA Demo's don't A/B anything because you know why.
And from memory again, the HE1000's don't sound much different than I remember the X's sounding. But that is a dangerous assumption yet again.
Oh and if I can't remember if one is better than the other from one day to the next, why bother paying more for "better"

On top of everything else I'm just as frustrated with Meridian as the folks concerned there is no way forward from 861V8 (which is not different than G61/G68) in Atmos, DTS:X etc.
And it's down right sick they have not come forward with any plans. It was down right embarrassing explaining to my friend the HD621 needed and that it would not work for 4K TV and it's basically a dead end if anything changes. And the hell I went through running 15 year old room correction. That has not improved since day one. So some of that frustration is coming through.
When I bought my Definitive Subs I noticed the upward firing Atmos speakers. Hay I'd have no issue popping those in my system for added immersion. Not an option with Meridian Preamps. I don't care if they decided to change direction. That's fine. But just tell us.
That was the sugar coated version. You want the non sugar coated one?
