Not sure why or where there is this "large blur"??

It has been stated and restated by Craven and Stuart, that MQA does NOT involve or include Apodizing... including in the original peer reviewed papers

These papers certainly make for far more authoritative reading than anything produced by Archimago et al on the subject over the past 2-plus years.

I get it, you believe what the MQA machine has told you.
And the blue light is really cool and all.

Rather than say he s$cks. how about you...

Post a link that shows some measurements comparing the formats.

Post a link of a double blind study that shows MQA is clearly better.

Post a link of where the papers on MQA have been peer reviewed.

His postings are much clearer to me than the Marketing hype MQA documents that keep getting recycled (usually by brands or magazines that make money off of anything new) and just taken on faith.

He at least takes the time to compare both technically (as best he can). And does his own blind listening tests and seems to be more objective than anything I've seen on this site. And came to the same conclusions I did (by ear).

You are free to comment on his garbage postings. The comments on his work seem rather balanced as well, open minded and skeptical at the same time.

It was very balanced. You obviously didn't read it.

Please refrain from telling me what I did or didn't read......I've read ALL his postings [as well as just about everything written on the subject] and have commented on them here and elsewhere

But anyway, the real problem here is that you're trying to resuscitate a discussion that has been had here and elsewhere on many occasions over the past 2-plus years

I'm sorry that you have missed these discussions.......but people here have moved on

Most here have read in detail the Pros and Cons offered by reputable people with sufficient bona fides as to be worth reading........and people here have read more than enough to understand why MQA MIGHT offer benefits

But in the end, the only thing that matters for most is how MQA sounds in the real world..........and here again, while you've been away, most people have done enough listening to make up their own minds on that subject

Lastly, I would again request that you show respect to other people around here........and especially their listening impressions.......and not continue to challenge their "goose bumps" or smiles as being caused by something they don't truly understand

To dismiss others' opinions here as being misled by the "MQA Machine"..........or somehow influenced by a "blue light" shows the lack of respect that you have for others' opinions here

Today alone, you have questioned the listening experiences of at least two posters........and then challenged them to somehow "prove" that their experiences were valid

Time to consider your approach IMHO

Absolutely, seems to be in the absence of anything from Meridian to discuss the posts just become rants and opinions masquerading as facts, maybe the HH forum has had its day?

These blog entries I link are only a month ago.

Oh and you are regular reader of his work and you post on his blog yet you propose his work is worthless.

MQA has really only become really available over the past couple months.

He's been commenting and blogging about MQA since 2015

MQA material has been available since early 2016

But more importantly, MQA and its Pros and Cons have been discussed many, many times here and elsewhere, since December of 2014.......with many here being able to listen to MQA Demo's at Dealers etc since 2015

True limited and controlled MQA samples have been around for a while but only recently has things ramped up with Tidal. And if MQA is gonna be around it's still in it's infantcy. I would hope so for MQA fans sake.

You know his recent blogs were starting to convince me there is something to MQA but you convinced me he doesn't know what he's doing. So guess I'll dismiss the positive things I saw in his blog.

Looks like your regular reader but I'm not allowed to reference him on even very recent blog entries.

Seems like you have a lot of double standards and biases.

I think the real truth will be out over the next couple years.

It's not so much what you say George, it is the way the you say it.

You have a very patronising tone, you sound like the liberal left mocking anyone with a different opinion to their own. I think right now many have had enough of being spoken to like that. It is everywhere and forums like this should be an escape.

Apodising has a way to 'blur' the noise you get from digital time smearing to make it more pleasurable to listen to, MQA is a way to rid it completely. I am sure in a few years time something else may come along that is even more clever.

When I say blur, I mean there is overlap between the history of Apodizing and various filter trade offs and what MQA is doing today and worth discussing. That's all. Blur was a bad word, how about overlap. Geesh.

I feel talked down to from the day I posted that I felt I heard no benefit from MQA and preferred the Chord over Explorer 2 or Prime. Like I was diseased or broken or something.

I like to understand technically if there is any merit to what my ears think.

My comment of, never having had goose bumps was a bit snarky, but also way over reacted to, because folks know how I feel about MQA. And it was somewhat a snarky way of saying, wouldn't the original 24/192 or even 16/44 also generate goose bumps on Awesome 8000SE speakers with a 818 or what ever.

I would sure hope so.

There may certainly be Merit in MQA. I've read tons on it all over and most people that DO say it works, say it's subtle improvement. Any improvement at this level is respectable !!

And I've seen similar comments by others disgusted when they see comments like first progress in 30 year, tears going down faces.

I see the same comments on someone switching headphone cables.

You just don't know if you are comparing MQA to something are you comparing the same exact mix. That is very difficult to determine. And it's automatically credited to "MQA". It might be, but there is no proof.

Once some good MQA ADC Converters are available some unbiased testing can be done side by side using MQA and not using MQA.

Until then, I'm suspicious.

And for the record I'm suspicious of any format over 20/48 as sounding any better (even if it's technically in there and captured). The limitations of home environments, speakers and human ears preclude hearing anything more. IMHO.

And I'll be totally honest.

When I received my HE1000's and compared those side by side to HD700's. Suddenly the HD700's sounded MUCH better !!

Why because my brain EXPECTED the HD700's to sound 1/3 as good as the HIFIMan X I returned (the day before !!).

I prefer the HE1000's over HD700, but the difference was not nearly as huge as my brain thought (recalling from memory).

Comparing anything from memory is dangerous. Period. Can't be done.

And I know Most Meridian MQA Demo's don't A/B anything because you know why.

And from memory again, the HE1000's don't sound much different than I remember the X's sounding. But that is a dangerous assumption yet again.

Oh and if I can't remember if one is better than the other from one day to the next, why bother paying more for "better" smile

On top of everything else I'm just as frustrated with Meridian as the folks concerned there is no way forward from 861V8 (which is not different than G61/G68) in Atmos, DTS:X etc.

And it's down right sick they have not come forward with any plans. It was down right embarrassing explaining to my friend the HD621 needed and that it would not work for 4K TV and it's basically a dead end if anything changes. And the hell I went through running 15 year old room correction. That has not improved since day one. So some of that frustration is coming through.

When I bought my Definitive Subs I noticed the upward firing Atmos speakers. Hay I'd have no issue popping those in my system for added immersion. Not an option with Meridian Preamps. I don't care if they decided to change direction. That's fine. But just tell us.

That was the sugar coated version. You want the non sugar coated one?
