I think the convenience of having Netflix/Amazon/iPlayer etc and the inconvenience of not being able to walk into a local video rental shop (Blockbuster) and rent a film also comes into play. If you want to watch a blu-ray film at your convenience you may have to buy it.

Saying all of that, I am hoping to build a new room and I will run cables/conduit for ceiling speakers.
