The 818 might certainly play in another league, but that is to be expected due to the enormous price difference.

By the way: I am also on Stax, however an old pair of SR-X, being driven by an old Musical Fidelity A1! fed by an Explorer2...

The suggestion regarding HQ player is in so far interesting as it is a means to avoid Meridian's own DSP and make comparisons.
