I know this sounds bizarre, but while you are waiting for the serial cable try the following. Put the Master cable comms to the OUTput comms socket of your (Left?) Master speaker and take the slave cable from the INput comms socket on the Left to the INput comms socket on the Right (Slave) speaker. My DSP33s work this way, but don't ask me why.

![[Linked Image from media.giphy.com]](https://media.giphy.com/media/3o7abA4a0QCXtSxGN2/giphy.gif) So Amazon finally delivered a null modem adapter to me, I've now plugged my PC in to 1 of the DSP33's, added a slave, fed it a digital input and I have audio! The LED went bright as soon as I plugged in the serial cable and I'm using the control window app to control the speakers. incidentally, a default of 65 for volume is damn loud, even for the little 33's So, that seems positive, sounds like the speakers work, and perhaps the fault lies with the cable, which is winging it's way to Ian for testing and fixing at the moment. You know what, I am sure my DSP33C is the same. Do you think there is a batch of DSP33C with the ports labelled incorrectly.

I have asked M why it is like this but I have not yet had a reply.

Funnily enough, my 3 DSP33's comprise 2 33C's and a single normal one... and no centre plinths...

I also first got my DSP33s working (and with variable volume!) using RS232 control, but the bizarre connections I described earlier got them working as they should (albeit not connected how they should be!).

So.. Ian got my M5 cable and although I'm still awaiting the results of rigorous testing, early indications are that it's fine! I've tried using my spare master comms cable into the comms output but that seems to make no difference. I'm not completely sure that it is a comms cable, but it was in my bag of Meridian cables, so maybe I'll try again when I get my cable back from Ian. With some messing with the legacy config program and the DSP33 speaker settings, I've managed to get them to play music when connected to the 568, but the 568 won't make them change volume. I've set 2 of the speakers to "volume control" main" which I'm guessing is right? or does the slave speaker get set to secondary? Also, I suspect they're on an older firmware, where do I get the latest firmware for the 33's? Once I have my cable back, I will report further. David

When it comes to DSP33s I think you're best to reset them so you see the flashing green light and then plug in the cables, they will then configure themselves.
If you set them up with the config programme you are overriding that and can run into issues.
Do you want me to email you the config file for the 568 that I did for you before sending the unit, I know 100% that worked, albeit with my 5200s?

This is all rather odd. This is as simple as it gets.
Retype 568, reset DSP33, known good comms cable, so all known state. It should just work. No voodoo magic needed. Something is amiss if it doesn't.
