I would guess he new the exact figures and cost before he made the announcement.
It kind of suggests the MQA wasn't doing much for his bottom line, if it was he would have knowingly put him self out of business.
It's really strange though that he took the announcement down so fast. I thought it was surely a hoax. But apparently it's not, based on the email received and also lack of any retraction or explanation. The whole thing seems very odd.
My real guess is nothing is selling for him and he is blaming MQA and the MQA model tends to imply a streaming model, which he doesn't offer.

HRA are ahead 503 available to purchase / download v 462 0n the Tidal App to stream.
Unfortunately HRA 503 @ say 13.50 each = 6790.50 = 28 years of Tidal Subs (Tidal HiFi in UK 20.00 per month = 240.00 per year.)
Come on Tidal stop drip feeding MQA albums to your App and satisfy market demand.

Hi Hector, As NCPL states above, there are actually about 2,500 MQA albums available thru Tidal. There are ~1,680 listed at the link below... and people continue to find more at a rapid rate... so it's worthwhile looking at that link daily to see what has been added, as it is constantly updated. List of MQA Albums available for Streaming thru Tidal.

The MQA versions of various Yes albums are no longer available from HighResAudion in MQA format; could this be related to the problems experienced trying to stream Tidal versions of these using the on-board MQA decoder? Trying not to be conspiratorially negative but what if Warners have got cold feet about digital MQA versions of albums getting into the wild and this is some sort of copy protection?

With a small inner resistance I once again went to highresaudio.com. I bought the MQA album from UNAMAS - A.Piazzolla by Strings and Oboe. Would Mister ? from Highresaudio listen to his MQA albums himself, his report and the "stop of the MQA sale" ;-) would probably not have happened. It does not matter to me how MQA works - if I got goose bumps when listening to such music (does this term exist in English?) MQA is simply an absolutely great Audiophile development!

Yes, it exists in English. Meridian and their technologies, have the ability to make the hair stand up on the back of my neck. Its happened a number of times, one of which was in what is probably a really poor acoustic wise space (the Meridian HQ lobby) and came totally unexpected. These were on segments of audio I knew very well and a result of having just heard that segment on some new piece of Meridian kit or technology - a direct result of feeling something for the first time even within a highly familiar segment. The quality of acoustic delivery from Meridian kit and technology far outweighs what on paper, may look very ordinary. You have to have had that almost subliminal like experience to understand, but once you have had it, you remember it for ever.
Meridian owner since 1992 Prime & PSU, Focal Elear headphones, Roon (ROCK 8Gi5 NUC), Explorer 1 & 2, F80. 200/203, various Sonos (via Roon).

You mean you've never got goose bumps from a piece of music on a system without MQA before? Perhaps it's just the music that's good?

Perhaps it's just the music that's good? As always, a post with an agenda!!!......SMH I do wonder what you would have posted [or more likely NOT have said] if Duke has posted the same "goose bump" statement.......but this time as a result of listening thru a Mojo rather than an MQA album [which you have gone to obvious pains to knock along the way] Your many posts here over the past several weeks about your new toys have gone unchallenged, as they have been based on your listening experiences Why not allow others the same courtesy to post their own listening observations.......especially when their observations don't align with your own

From here in Germany the number of MQA albums for sale is down to 252, half what it was just before the announcement.
I for one am going to peruse the list and buy a few more before they all go. ECM for example doesn't stream from Tidal here in Germany, so it's the only way of getting MQA ECM titles.
To ask the obvious question, where else can one buy MQA albums?
