I am also very surprised! I always thought Manfred Eicher and ECM were completely independent on the music market. The whole ECM catalog as TIDAL MQA to stream - heaven on earth For me.

Good Lord that opens up a ton of stuff I enjoy... had wondered who owned Polydor, Virgin and Capitol these days. Roll on Vangelis, Tangerine Dream, Mike Oldfield and the Beach Boys on MQA! (We all have our guilty pleasures!)

Cheers

For (some) audiophiles maybe, but in the mainstream I think MP3 will still be around for quite a while in the audio streaming arena wink

Indeed you're right, the most accessible file format will persist for some time to come; moving forwards though, if an artist or recording studio was wondering what format to issue their content in, it will default to MQA.

I was very starstruck to receive that reply. It's either the heavens opened up and blessed us with a divine sighting; or I really hit a sore nerve ! smile

Indeed I thought they were independent and onboard already to MQA.

Actually on the classical side this I hope will convince some labels with treasured back catalogs to take the plunge:

Testament
Chandos
Channel Classics (though their digital recordings are already demonstration standard)
Linn (grin)

Excellent news indeed.

It brings us many sour responses like Mr Aix who's blogs I normally enjoy but this time bringingin the Uber Sours (Linn and Archimagothingy) as proof of his point is quite sad.
I enjoy listening to the MQA releases and i frequently get the goose bumps all over, now that hasn't happened for a while! Knowing the albums are from the original master, brought to me over the very fine Tidal streaming service is the cherry on the pudding.

Cheers!

That's totally utterly correct Asa, I cling to a disintegrating disc of Anthony Pay doing Mozart Clarinet Quintet and on Archiv the list is almost endless, Gardiner in MQA? Wow

I forgot Erato - are they part of Warner now ? Les Arts Florissants did some great stuff there.

Harmonia Mundi ?

Erato are part of Warner but I think Harmonia Mundi are still independent.

On Archiv there is also Trevor Pinnock as well as Gardiner; and on L'oiseau-lyre the huge catalogue of Hogwood among others.

But Warner don't seem to have given Harnoncourt the MQA treatment yet.

I forgot to endorse your appreciation of William Christe and Les Arts. Some of their recordings are on Erato but not on Tidal.

Gardiner has also appeared on Erato but none of those discs seem to be on Tidal let alone MQA. Perhaps we will get his Berlioz in MQA via Philips and Universal?

Likewise I could not find any MQA of Ton Koopman or Il Giardino Armonico.

Many thanks for sharing Asa, indeed I haven't come across any MQA of these artists yet. However, with Universal coming online we are likely to see these come out within this year or next year?

Il Giardino would be great, their recordings have always had amazing swagger and presence.
