That will work fine but the advance menu functions will be limited when the Speaker is the controller. Like if you want to try different Presets (Trifield vs Music) going through the speaker won't let you. You'll only have access to Volume, Axis, Treble and Bass (only what the Speaker Understands).

I just had setup a friends system from scratch and had set up the center as controller. And I was just to show him differences in Room Correction Bypass and I thought the remote was broken. Then I forgot about the limitation. For "normal" day to day use. Using Any Speaker for Controller is fine.
