I use the main left or right as master, then simply go from the 568 to the nearest main, say that is the main right, so main right to the centre to main left to rear left to rear right.
Keeps the cabling a lot neater as far as I can see.
I always think of the comms and audio as two separate cables, easier to get your head round it all then.
No Darling, I've had it months!

Don't worry at all about the rears being 18 bit. You will not be able to hear any difference (in a cinema one's brain is entirely distracted by the screen and the audio from the front).
Studios doing multiple copies and mixes demanded 24 bit so Meridian (like so many) could not buy 18 bit chips any more, and the listener demanded 24 bit anyway. Hence the change.

Interested in this quote, given the main change on the 568.2 was high res on the rears, is that model therefore a redundant option if moving on from vanilla 568 in the future? lee

You have to decide for yourself. People buy things for all sorts of reasons and often convince themselves that their decisions are fully justified. Long live human diversity.
With some things, and Meridian kit is one such, I just like to have the latest. I just enjoy owning it. I bought a 568.2mm and Meridian had me spotted with the right sales pitch which I fell for. I felt good about my decision until I then moved on to an 861. Could I really detect the difference in my dedicated 8 seater home cinema? No. Did I mind? Not really - I liked the style, presence and technical elegance of the 861 and so I felt good. Nothing else matters really and we all have different ideas of what makes us feel good.
Actually, as I get older I am more and more enjoying restoring classic old sound equipment, much of which, when restored, still sounds really good - quite good enough for me. This is a welcome development in my psyche as it is much cheaper!

I thought as soon as you has an 18bit speakers on the end of a processor it only output 18bit on all channels? Anyway, in regard to the 568 vs 568.2 you can load the later software on it, V2.5b which gives it a more 'open' sound, but loses a bit of warmth, not as much as the G series but somewhere in between the two. I actually really like the sonic signature of the 568.1, it has a real warmth to it which certainly helped with some early CDs etc. However.... now we are moving into hi res and often paired with apodising filters on the speakers, both of which tends smooth early recordings nicely, the extra bit of bite from the 2.5b and of course the G series could be a good thing. To me the 568 always sounded more like the 861, when I A-B'd them back in the day, they sounded really similar, the 861 just had a bigger soundstage, just sounded like a more grown up version of the 568. The G68 in comparison lost some of that 'liquidy' sound. I think the 568.2 is definitely worth trying after a 568.

Hi Lee
It's not just the inclusion of upsampling the rears, the 568.2 (and mm version) are a marked step up in sound quality from the 568.1. I've owned both, used with DSPs, and the difference was very obvious. I think the 568.2mm is a real audiophile bargain these days, and it cuts the mustard as a digital preamp in analogue systems too until you get into stratospheric dCS money.
Worth the upgrade!
Cheers
George

Appreciate the comments gents.
Not planning any changes in this area at the moment as don't have the space in the living room to go to 5.1 (have a 3 channel set up from the 568 with audio extracted from the sources via a HDMI switch). However always have an eye on the next move and certainly had the 568.2mm in my sights.
Incidentally gIzzE, spotted a post recently if i remember correctly, mentioning possible pairing of Beolab 6000's with 568 and a sub. Do you have experience of this, as i may consider pulling a sub into my setup first given this can be hidden. The 6000's were a SWMBO compromise and lack some bass to say the least, albeit look great. Also the overall volume levels can be problematic when receiving 5.1 DD feeds given the plethora of different channel preferences out there.
