Thanks yet again Russ. Looks like my shopping list will now include an Icybox and a couple of Seagate 3.5 inch 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB 6GB/S Internal SATA Drives, as these are what I have in the MD600 at the moment. As the Sooloos software will not be on the cloned HDDs I guess my albums could be transferred / used through other systems than the MS600 / MD600 if I wished to do so. Jeremy

My advice is based on you staying with Sooloos as you originally indicated, if you were to move to Roon then you would do a native export which would usually be in FLAC and then there are other backup options open to you as the files are not encrypted as they are in Sooloos.
I have learned a lot in the past 24 hours thanks to you folks. One last question - for the time being! The Sooloos Interrogator looks to be an excellent tool but I can't get the link to work. I note that a couple of other people have asked if it's possible for the link to be reinstated.
Having researched Roon a bit more I think I shall stay with Sooloos for the time being. With around 2000 albums in my system, plus the excellent quality FM stations - particularly R3 classical - we have here in the UK (until the Government decides to shut down FM), I have plenty to enjoy.
Thanks again to all. Jeremy

Following helpful advice from folks here, particularly Russ, I have purchased a Icy Box cloning unit and a couple of 2 TB HDDs. I've cloned the HDDs from my MD600 and verified they are good by booting the MD600 with the cloned disks which gives extra peace of mind. Each clone took about 3 hours 20 minutes for 1960 albums / 766 GB.
When I take one of the cloned HDDs, put it in the Icy Box and connect it to my PC, I cannot get it to appear in Windows Explorer. I have also tried a 2.5 inch drive containing non-Sooloos music and other files. When I put this in the Icy Box it will appear as a drive in Windows Explorer. Any idea why this is? I would have thought that however the Sooloos system stores files in an HDD, it should still appear as a drive in Windows Explorer.
Also, I noted that the drive lights on the MD600 were flashing alternately for a long time after putting the original disks back in. I would expect this if a new drive was being built but I'm surprised it is happening after the drives were used to clone a new drive. Jeremy.

The file system on the cloned MD600 HDs will most likely be a Linux variant (ext3 or ext4 I'm guessing). Windows cannot mount that type of file system without some tricks. One approach might be to run a Linux virtual machine in VirtualBox or similar and try to access the HD that way.
Thanks Russ. You are quick on the draw (!) as I have edited my post with an additional comment. Jeremy
