My system produces no sound when connected to an On Demand service such as iPlayer or ITV Player. The system once functioned OK but we have not used On Demand for over a year because of slow Broadband.

Now that reasonably fast Broadband has arrived (37 Mbps) we have again tried On Demand services. Installations and results (from System 2 below) are as follows:

  • On Demand via Humax Freesat receiver connected directly to TV via HDMI 1.4 delivers normal sound but obviously from TV speakers alone.
  • On Demand from Humax Freesat connected to an HD621 and then G61RSL produces no sound whatsoever.

Humax have suggested Copyright issues. Hence reading through the HD621 manual indicated switching off MHR. This did not work. Only output available from Humax Freesat is Stereo.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

2 channel stereo PCM should be easy for the HD621 and Meridian processors to support.

I suppose your configuration hasn't been updated on either Meridian device to support the new HDMI device, remember audio input should be set to however the HD621 is connected to your processor, not Last Valid (for me it is IE44:MM)

Hi,

Do you know what format the audio is from the Demand services?
If PCM or DD it should be fine.

If DD+ which some services are now using, the M processor will not be able to decode it.

If it an EDID issue, then maybe a Gefen HDMI Detective type device would help.

Regards,
Carl

Hi,

Why not picture via HD621 and audio via optical?

Are you sure the G65 switches to the HD621 input?

Thanks

Hi folks,

Many thanks for the various suggestions. The plan is to pursue these over the weekend and I think a solution is likely.

I have also written and voice mailed M Technical Support with the same question, but so far have not received any response. I find the phone line mostly unmanned these days, so I guess CEDIA and ISE overload much of their resources. ISE is particularly focusing my mind with the promise of a 218 for my System No. 1 (below) a and the recently acquired QNAP TS-251+.

I shall report back.

Best wishes to all for an indulgent weekend.

Geoff

I was at Meridian HQ 2 or 3 years back. They (Des and Russell?) specifically mentioned about sending support calls to their support@ email address. IIRC they said that they tried to get back to everything within a week - may be their Friday task!

I don't think anything has much changed significantly at Meridian to make me think that this is nolonger the way of getting a specific response.

So if you have not done so already, contact them via their support@ email address.

Hello,

I now have success, so many thanks to those who have pointed me in the right direction.

Solution was resetting the HD621 input Properties Dialogue associated with my Sat box. I think this was "Re-Set to LPCM DD 5.1 etc".

There has been an improvement in sound quality and sound has appeared on On Demand players.

Thanks again

Geoff
