Hmmm. Thats open to interpretation.

Does it decode and play MQA at full resolution, or is it simply compatible with MQA (it's an encoding is it not, not a file format?) which is compatible with pretty much any PCM based device.

I can verify that with Bluesound tomorrow.

Bluesound is an MQA partner. I'm fairly sure that it will be doing MQA decoding.

They do state
Quote
The first soundbar in the world to be able to do so.
which implies that it is doing something different to any other PCM ready device.

Cheers

I found this comment on Computeraudiophile "- Blusound users have reported that the Node 2 is limited to 96/24 digital output when streaming MQA. It appears the Blusound output is partially unfolded MQA, since connecting a MQA DAC to its output results in the blue light coming in -- which only happens for a MQA encoded stream."

Does this mean that I can take Tidal Master -> Bluesound Node 2 digital out -> DSP8000USE with 96/24 MQA and have the final decoding happen in the DSP's?

I cannot find any documentation that the Node 2 will have MQA on the digital out?

SE loudspeakers *do not decode MQA*. You would need to feed the output from the Bluesound Node 2 into either an 818v3, 808v6, or the forthcoming (and much cheaper) 218.

Hi VK

Do you know if there is a technical reason
Why speakers can't decode MQA ?

Cheers
Tom

"SE loudspeakers *do not decode MQA*"

Some confusion here, to achieve full fat MQA, I was sold on 808v6 plus SE speakers and fantastic it is. If SE speakers make no further contribution in terms of processing to MQA SQ as you suggest other than the displayed MQA detail where is the advantage.

What is the difference between "Decoding" and the "Origami" unfolding.

Happy to be enlightened Hector

I remember the word 'Rendering' being used with regard to SE speakers. More information on exactly that may help.

I'll put my toe carefully in the water here and say SE speakers can accept fully decoded MQA from an 8x8 and reproduce it with SE DACs and amps whereas legacy DSPs are limited to 96/24. The 8x8 is doing all the decoding and SE speakers can fully utilize that signal but legacy DSPs can't.

OMG, I wonder if the SE loudspeakers *do* decode after all and it's a double-decode?

Edit: except that if you feed the 818v3 192k PCM, clearly the 818 is capable of handling that and sending it to the SE loudspeakers. A real puzzle...
