Bruce, have you talked with Meridian about the previously stated Sooloos Core MQA Decode update coming from Meridian?

does the 218 have the Sooloos software on it? connect via Control:PC?

how does the 218 physically fit into my system? as per my previous question?

How do you get a single cat output from the G65 to handle two channels?

There is only one cat input to the 218.

SpeakerLink output i.e. Cat 5. can handle 2 channel audio fine. That's why you can daisy chain L and R channels from 1 output.

The 218 has a MQA enabled Sooloos endpoint in it along with switching of its additional inputs to its outputs in parallel. It will have a similar control interface as the MS200. Its inputs are assignable to respond via Meridian comms .

So just to clarify, instead of having 2 outputs from my G65 to the FL and FR speakers I will now have just one output from the G65 carrying both FL and FR channels to the input of the 218, this then splits left and right and goes to my SE speakers.

Under normal operation (non MQA) I carry on as normal, (having told my G65 using the Meridian configuration software that I am now sending 2 channels on 1 output and that I have a 218 in the loop) but if I want to listen to MQA tracks I use Sooloos on the 218 and it will output in 2 channel to my SE speakers?

Do you need to get an updated version of the Meridian setup software that will have the 218 as a listed device?

My concern with daisy chaining like this is that part of the special abilities of the higher end Meridian products, specifically 8xx (don't know about G series) is the low jitter output from the digital outs.

Unless 218 also has equally low jitter, then it's going to undo all of the goodness that you spent your hard earned cash on.

The SPDIF via Coax or AES/EBU via SpeakerLink digital audio signal always contains two channels ... so there is no configuration to be changed when using 'Home Run' or 'Daisy Chained' connections.

It's down to the DSP speaker's configuration (left / right) which channel 0 or 1 is processed.

Do you need to reprogram the G65? Or can the 218 just be plugged in, setup as an endpoint without any further changes to setup files on my G65/HD621?

Possibly, If the inputs are essentially unchanged from default, yes. If your MC200 is currently inputting to the G65 via SpeakerLink you could simply swap the cable from the MC200 to the 218. Same for coax digital for that matter.

But this wont work apparently, not for MQA?
The 218 needs to sit between my FL FR output and my FL FR speakers? That was what was concluded above.
