i presume it gets the good stuff to your end points effectively, rather than the desktop interface which is Tidal's only route at the moment.

Looking forward to Roon getting MQA to my SBT for example, then onto the main system.

If, e.g., an 818v3 decodes MQA for non-SE 7200.2s over SL, will it apply DAC compensation?

God only knows.

I might call Meridian and try to find out, would be useful to know. Wondered if there would be a difference in this respect between legacy and SL non-SEs (in that SL might pass enough information to the 818 to allow this)?

There is a difference between SpeakerLink models and all DSP speakers using legacy comms, because the DSPs with SpeakerLink can essentially tell the 818 what they are (and more specifically their hardware capabilities). Without v2 comms, the 818 will necessarily have to apply a generic filter.

Thanks, that's really useful. So there is at least the technical possibility that DAC compensation might be feasible.

Hi VK.

"Without v2 comms, the 818 will necessarily have to apply a generic filter"

I don't think that's necessarily true. I've told my 818 through mconfig that 96/24 6Ks are connected. It then "remembers" that I have these speakers, as evidenced by my uploading the 818 config back into mconfig on my laptop...

So the 818 has the *potential* to compensate for specific legacy DSPs. Whether it does or not is of course a different matter...

Some direct communication from Meridian and MQA would really help here.

Excellent point Steve; I forgot about that possibility completely. Back to M...

Why bother? Meridian probably has a giant backlog of SE DSP orders, why try to sell more? Besides, every Tom, Dick & Harry sells loudspeakers with MQA capabilities built into the cabinet, so it's not as if they have a unique selling point.

And let's be honest, it's not as if Meridian could have seen this new flood of MQA content coming. It came out of nowhere!

*shakes his head*
