Hi,
Can anybody recommend a suitable product for converting an analog "volume control" to a pair of early DSP5000 speakers?
I was looking at the Sonos connect, as I've read about people hooking these direct to DSP5000 with great results, but I'm not sure how all the volume controls in the same chain will work !!!
Also, am I right in thinking the converter must be 18bit as the speakers are?

Music room: Apogee recording with Nuemann, Dynaudio and Meridian speakers. And a big headache getting it all to play together.

Thanks for the fast reply !!! I read that on here a few days ago, and have sourced one I can collect today for $110 I can find room for it on my desk if it what I really need. At the moment I'm just looking at an Apogee Rosetta 200, as I have rack space available and it is what Apogee tech support just recommended to me. (The DSP will be used as a monitor set with an Apogee recording set-up.)

Scrap that idea!!!
The cheapest Apogee on eBay is over $500. More than I want to pay to enable these speakers to work in my application!

With a 562 you can control your speakers and you have analoge and digital inputs.
For that $110 its a bargain

That's plus CA sales tax ($10).
But I can save the $30 shipping as I will be driving by the store on my way to work in an hour!
I designed the top shelf of my recording desk to take my 586 CD player, so have room for another Meridian box. But I was simply looking at alternatives as I have other smaller items that fit perfect in there two.
I'm now redesigning my desk so I loose a rack cabinet but gain drawers for them smaller items ... (mics etc.).
My thinking now is that I will digital out from the 586 to the 562 to the DSP5000s, and also run an analog chain to connect into the recording set-up then back up to the 562 before going digital again to the DSP5000s.
It's complicated as I want to be able to listen to CDs in there, but also play CDs through my recording/monitoring system.
That way I can play along to CDs and record it, and also check mixes back through a "home stereo" as well as my monitors ...

I now have the 562 home, and sat next to the 5000s and 586. But I can't try operating it as I have no remote and no cables yet!
All I have is one Meridian blue digital that I used to connect the 586 in the TV system, but I have a few B&O and midi cables lying around and I was wondering if they work on the Meridian comms?
Another question just to make sure I've got this right: 586 - 562 - 5000 for CD playback. Apogee spkr-out - 562 - 5000 for music playback. How do I get analog CD out from the 562 - Apogee analog in?
I'm thinking an MSR+ with 2 CD buttons? (one directing CD playback to Apogee in analog, and the other directing it in digital to the 5000s.)
Would this remote even work on my old system?

New remote should work.
Logitech Harmony remote should work too but won't work for TYPEing the DSP speakers.
I think you can use a normal MIDI cable for a slave cable between the two DSP speakers. But you will want a Master cable from 562 to Master DSP speaker.

I've just been doing a little more reading (a dangerous thing).
What will happen if I connect the 586 to a 5000 using a digital cable and play a CD?
Would it play at a sensible volume so I could at least test to see if the speakers work?

What will happen if I connect the 586 to a 5000 using a digital cable and play a CD? Yes, you can hook up a cable and test without the M cable, but I think you will need the remote to get the speaker out of standby.
