On the near horizon, Amarra 4 and Amarra 4 Luxe will be released. Available for Mac and PC.

Both are MQA capable. The Luxe version provides upscaling, and the option of 'surround' sound via your 2 channel headphones.

I think for anyone who has lived for any amount of time with Roon (or Sooloos for that matter), it looks clunky and iTunes-like.

As for MQA, I have scanned the website and don't see anything beyond what any bit-perfect player will do, which is deal with the file like any other FLAC file.

What does Amarra offer that others don't?

It's a tad cheaper than the £500 asking price for Roon.

You can also add Dirac room correction.

I cannot actually find a price for it but see Amarra 3 is €635. Is it a tad cheaper ?

Assume that Amarra doesn't do network streaming, multi-room etc.

Apples for apples etc.

Amarra 3 Hi-Fi = $35

Amarra 3 = $99 (option to add Dirac).

Amarra 3 Symphony = $649 (includes Dirac)

ANY software player that does bit perfect playback is 'MQA' compatible for as long as the bits are passed on unaltered to a MQA DAC, the DAC will decode MQA. NO software player will be allowed to decode MQA since it can not compensate for the time smearing of the DAC.

I played MQA using Roon, Roon Essentials, Audirvana, Volumio, Rune Audio and others and they all 'do MQA' as long as the volume is set to 100% and all other possible processing is switched off. MQA decoding will always only take place inside an MQA DAC.

I never claimed that Amarra could decode MQA.

So how much is Amarra 4? I saw the v3 prices. Assume this is just a PC/Mac to USB software player? It won't work with Sooloos end points will it ? Just wonder what makes the comparison to Roon valid ?

I don't have £500 for Roon.

Upgrade from Amarra 3 Hi-Fi to Amarra 4 for $15.

Upgrade from Amarra 3 to Amarra 4 Luxe for $5.

Amarra will pass-through to whatever MQA decoder I eventually buy.

Roon doesn't offer the option of room correction (for those of us without Meridian's room correction).

How do you plan to connect Amarra to your Hifi ? Assume USB of some sort?
