Until I have a box in hand along with a command set, we will see. At the very least it will act in a similar fashion as a Distributor 1 so any input can be directed to the outputs simultaneously. Will it offer matrix switch type operation? That I don't know.

If true, this must be the "Matrix Revived" can't wait.

Silly question, but any reason why you used "4 of these"? I cannot imagine there is a limit to the # you can use in a mutli room system?

On a related item. Do you get the sense they are doing more of these installer friendly devices? For instance. Would be great to have a 2/4 channel amp for remote location installation.

Finally, how will the products be distributed? Seems like these could see demand from a much wider set of installers. Limiting to dealers who DSP custom installs seems like it would severely limit its potential?

I agree, seems like a good deal!

Not a limit but an example of 4 258's with the appropriate number of analog stereo channels. I am not sure that they will be opening more dealers or even custom installation only dealers. The idea is to have products with a broader appeal and to get Sooloos and MQA into more hands. I would think if there was enough intrest in a 2 or 4 channel amp as you suggest, they would consider making them. Meridian was able to create three new products that are highly useful and desirable with off the shelf, in house technology. Pretty smart business move.

I was just wondering, what is the minimal system to use the 218 for streaming? I suppose you can use Roon, but that involves extra costs. Is there another pure software solution? I have an Ubuntu server with the audio tracks (amongst things).

Right now it is Sooloos or Roon

Why not any other streaming option plugged into a spare input in a single room? I assume Roon and Sooloos feed multiple rooms?

Hi,

The term streaming is normally associated with USB or network data delivery.
As there's no USB port that only leaves the Sooloos network protocol ... hence the reply "Meridian or Roon".

There is a SPDIF input but that could only be used to stream if a 3rd party streaming endpoint device (like a SBT etc.) was hooked up to it.

Hope that helps.

Regards,
Carl

The beauty of the 218 is that it can switch between the coax, toslink, analog, or Sooloos endpoint.

So yes, it can be a Sooloos or Roon endpoint and have local source switching as well with variable analog or SpeakerLink outputs.

Plus a HiFiBerry board and unless you need SpeakerLink, you could probably dispense with the 218. I think if I was in the market for a 218, I'd bite the bullet and go with Roon.

Main system - Sources (Kodi-HTPC, Vero 4k, FireTV, Sat) into Trinnov Altitude 32 (8-16) (+Roon), Trinnov Amplitude 8 amp & Vivid Audio (Giya G3, V1.5) and REL Stentor III speakers. Others: F80 + Raspberry Pi and other Pi systems.
