Maybe they will be done over SpeakerLink like newer DSP speakers...

A part from software updates, what else would the SpeakerLink in port be used for (I feel like I've asked a stupid question!)

Cheers

Is that confirmation that RS232 control is not possible other than by using a DSP speaker as a comms gateway?

Sadly I'm using RS232 for control - even if this did (obviously zero chance of that) support Ethernet/IP for control, the device would be stuck on my control network - so no internet radio (isolated network).

You should be able to inject it into the SpeakerLink in with a Reviver or AC12.
I will confirm this at the Cedia show next week.

Maybe a Distributor 1 would add a RS232 port and additional analogue/coax in. Can't wait to test with that...

My MD600 MS600 would feed nicely into it.

I see! Would you expect the 218 to pass through the SL signal without any converting/processing etc? - Guess it makes sense. It does sounds like a very flexible product at an incredibly low price (for Meridian)

Cheers

So they bring in a whole new 200 series line for custom multi-zone installations before updating the "mid-level" G series and AC/MS200 for MQA. It shows M's continuing disregard for the core enthusiasts - focusing on big bucks purchasers (818, UltraDAC, custom installs) and PC add-ons.

When do we get a G18?

I feel much better now.

IIRC that cost of G series box was circa £1000.

I guess that would put it original ball park of MS600 but with a few extras. Would be interesting to know how quality would compare.

I find it interesting that 2xx was reused and 218 was chosen for this little box. More like a custom series of another range to me and more 562 like than 518 like.

Thanks Ian for your rant, this makes me feel better too, without having to put feelings into words.

However if this strategy can revive the fortunes of M, just maybe we enthusiasts will benefit in the long term whistle

So many deals out there if you like to negotiate a bargain, as long as "big bucks" are made elsewhere wink wink say no more.
