The Product code for this DAC appears to be "857".

Which doesn't have a lot of apparent history... unless it's also a replacement for the G57, which seems unlikely given the specs wink

Hi VK,

Ultra DAC User Guide, page 20 (all I can find is on Duncan's site)

It could be a typo, not that it happens often, on the other hand, perhaps not.

Would we not want a higher bandwidth amplifier?

Regards I

Perhaps whistle It makes sense to me, the ultimate DAC partnered with the ultimate power amplifier.

Isn't speculation wonderful or Meridian are having a joke at our expense!

Im sure in time, we will see whether the 857(?) borrows from SE technology or whether it is a trailblazer in its own right, at which point DSP speakers will take another step forward.

Maybe, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's a typo ie 557. Just sayin'.

The illustration in the Ultra's user guide looks like an 800 series unit due to the square badge on the front, and the proportions of the front panel to side cheeks. I reckon it's on the way.

Cheers

The 857 is indeed a new power amp, designed to partner the Ultra DAC.

Finally a power amp in the 800 chassis, it looks awesome.

Cheers,

Richard.

So all Meridian need to produce now are some high bandwidth non-DSP speakers?

I was lamenting, the other day, that they don't produce some semi-affordable non-DSP actives...
