Ha, yes always a good idea.

Thanks for reassurance with AES to SL. I read somewhere that the digital audio part of proprietary SL is not quite the same as AES because it has certain voltage differences. I was concerned that these may be important and might even be harmful to the speakers.
Please say if this could be a snag.

I thought I'd control volume at the speakers using the MSR remote.
