Thanks for this link. I don't see anything there which isn't already in the other publicity material. Did I miss something?
I am curious whether the "Multi-Bit Modulator" used in DSD conversion is also used when playing DSD with 818v3/8kSE combo. That already sounds great - I have no complaints - but just curious whether the technology is different in the two set-ups.
He talks about "Our ability to deal with audio in all different formats..." and I'd be curious how we should stream DSD and DXD to the Ultra over a network. It doesn't appear to be possible, forcing us to use the USB input.
Maybe you can ask him those two supplementary questions?.... Make him stray beyond reading out the data sheet.
I would really like to understand in what way the new technologies in the Ultra DAC are different from what is found in the 808v6 / 818v3 combined with DSP SE speakers. Will the Ultra DAC do a better job on playing MQA and DSD files compared to the existing combinations mentioned?

I'm sure that M have applied some genuine M fairy dust and magic, but it would be great for them to really spell out the enhancements on the already class leading 818v3.

Not really a Q&A, just a marketing exercise. It's not a Bob Stuart type Q&A (re MQA) that seemed to go down quite well.
Nobody has asked with the headphone socket is yet!
Re filters, is that a first? Auralic have 5 filters on their DAC, dual mono is pretty common in higher end DACs and DIY.
It's probably great though. I'm wondering what new qualities the amp will have to maximise MQA benefits, this may guide analogue users of current MQA as to how to benefit most.
I am trading in my 818v2 for the Ultra DAC. My dealer was involved with M in encouraging them to produce a DAC which would be competitive with MSB and DCS. He has heard prototype models but not the final version. His view was the performance was on another level from the 818. The outer case was kept the same as the 800 series for pricing reasons and timing to the market. I expect to receive the DAC in early July.
I am surprised that the response to this product here has been so muted. However, I am left wondering what the implications are for those of us with DSP speakers. Clearly, not even SE versions can have the grandly-named Hierarchical Converter Technology:

The Meridian Ultra Digital to Analogue Converter is the first product in the world to feature MQA’s patent-pending Hierarchical Converter Technology, which pushes the unit’s performance far beyond that of any Digital to Analogue Converter currently available on the market.

Lack of response to this THREAD is a concern to me. Hope M has a good 'roadmap' response in fall and can show results at CES.
Only hope M does not announce Ultra upgrade with addtional $20K USD upgrade
At THE Show I asked Ken Forsythe of Meridian whether the Hierarchical Converter Technology had anything to do with MQA decoding or any had any affect in an all digital system and he was very clear it did not. According to him it is only involved in the D/A process. Now, with the Ultra DAC using that technology will a good analogue system surpass a DSP system with MQA (or without it)?
